Sea fishing trips in Grenada, Caribbean
Hi guys,
I've booked a surprise holiday to Grenada for my husband's 'special' birthday next April.
Just wondering if any of you can recommend anyone that specialises in sea fishing trips around Grenada ? My husband would LOVE this and it would be a fabulous surprise.
I've seen a few companies advertising on the 'net, but if anyone can actually recommend someone to me, I'd be very grateful.
Cheers chaps !

Grenada
What a lucky man, Miffy!
I’ve racked my brains and, of the people I know that have visited the island, can not think of any that have gone fishing.
Looking at the boats advertising on the Web – the two I found, 31 footers. http://www.grenadafishing.com/index.htm and http://www.yesaye.com/index.htm - appear well equipped as does their fishing tackle. And their rates are reasonable -400$US for a half day and 600$US for 8 hours - certainly in terms of Caribbean standards. (To that though you’ll find the convention is to give the crewman a tip anything between 10 and 15% of the daily charter fee. Most crews aren’t paid a wage, relying on tips.)
April is probably right at the end of their Marlin season – although they were still catching them this April. So it would probably be worth waiting until you arrived before making any booking and discussing with the skipper what species were available. If the Marlin aren’t there then a half day charter may be more appropriate. But irrespective hubby would probably catch something and it can, in fact the whole experience, be exciting for a ‘first timer’.
I noticed that the first of those boats did actually have a link to a UK specialist travel agency BUT the rates quoted through it were higher than you’d pay direct. Um…in itself odd. The norm would be for the agency get its commission direct from the boat owner – the rates advertised being identical. Notwithstanding that it just might be worth questioning them, without booking – I can’t see where they’re adding value - to see if they can perhaps add any background information. It does appear to be a new venue for them and there is the possibility that one or other of their agents has visited the island. (Certainly I know the agency in question do arrange numbers of trips to Egypt, for anglers targeting Nile Perch. So they do have a reasonable reputation.)
Failing that if no one else with direct experience responds it might be worth reading posts on the TripAdvisor forum, or even posting a request. It tends to be used by a lot of Americans. Any rate here’s the url - http://www.tripadvisor.com/SearchFor....html&x=12&y=8
The only other information source I looked at was a US forum that specialises in fly fishing. This was literally the only post I could find - http://reel-time.com/forum/showthrea...hlight=Grenada
Sorry I can offer any more help.

Hi,
A challenging trip that ends in the pleasures of gastronomy, that is what sport fishing in the Caribbean offers. Barracuda, Kingfish, Tuna, Blue Marlin, Billfish, the pleasure of the catch is only equalled by the excellent taste of fish freshly caught in the clear, unpolluted waters of the Caribbean.

Ciguatera and Billfish
Yes, of course Stephen's point is well made but please be VERY careful of eating Barracuda or other species encountered near reef structures. In a word they may contain Ciguatera toxins. They're remarkably unpleasant in their effect and, in extremis, can kill.
Of course not all Barracuda contain the toxins and those from oceanic waters, if they haven't ventured inshore, will be safe. But telling them apart ... um, fish don't carry passports! And don't accept the locals word, they love to eat them and experiencing violence sickness once in a while is, well, 'par for the course' to many. Here's one such article you may wish to read - http://www.sharkysdive.net/poifish.htm
Also you'll find that unless they're potential records crews would, as a matter of course, release all Marlin and other billfish.

hi friend,
Most deep sea fishing charters provide all the necessary tackle and bait, transportation to and from the hotel, refreshments and drinks.
