    mullet in River Cuckmere

Hi all, sneaked over from the South West forum for a bit of advice. Has anyone ever fished the Cuckmere for mullet between the main Eastbourne road and Littlington and if so do you have any tips. I've tried several times over the past few years while down visiting my parents and never had a touch though there are plenty about. Tried bread and groundbait which just gets ignored and harbour rag get murdered by tiny basslets. Going down next week and would like to try again. Also, is it worth lure fishing for bass at the mouth of the river or from the reefs at the bottom of the cliffs at low tide?
    Cheers
    Tipper

Just got back from my week down at Seaford. Didn't get to try for the mullet in the river, but had a lot of golden greys from tide mills to ~2.5lbs. Fishing Seaford beach in the evenings had small sole (plus one wopper ~3lbs), baby thornbacks, loads of small bass, flounders, pout and poor cod. Thoroughly enjoyable fishing and all fish returned alive. Next year I'll crack those river mullet

    Thumbs up

    welcome to the forum tipper

it looks like you had a good week with the fishing...some nice fish caught.

before you go down again let your folks know and get them to ground bait the area you will fish for the mullet.....about 2 weeks before would be a good starting point....once every couple of days? If you don't fancy that...buy some cheap mepps type spinners ..... cut off the treble hook.... tie a 4 inch length of line to it with a size 10 hook.... I often add a bubble float from the spinner to stop it going to deep make sure you use a couple of swivels it helps stop the line twisting. on the hook use a small bit of rag..hook it so there is a tail? don't be surprised if the mullet take it as it gets close to your feet.... vary the speed of your retrive until you find one that gets you bites....

    I hope this helps you
