    Evening Jon,

you've picked a good spot there mate!!!

Close by you have the following decent spots -

Ardglass Harbour - fish from the harbour wall or head south to the rocks near the golf course - always a popular spot.

Carlingford Lough/Greenore - this area holds the Irish record for Tope, also good for bass.

Kilkeel Harbour - I've never fished from here but there is a commercial fishing fleet based here.

    Newcastle Harbour plus many others.

There are some posters on this site from around that area so I'm sure they will recommend some other spots.

    Have fun.

    Hello there,

I would highly recommend coming over. Bring the fly and spinning gear though! My stomping ground is Carlingford Lough. Have a read of the article I've written on this site. Stutter, sputter, splash and pop. Just a taste of bass fishing in Carlingford.

    Tight lines,

    Mick

Killard Point and Coast just north of Ardglass

The rocks at Killard Point (near the mouth of Strangford Lough) is a good spot for spinning for pollack. It's pretty rocky and be prepared for tackle loss. The climb here is not too steep but the rocks are like Mach 3 razors and can do some serious damage if you fall (I have scars to prove it). Natural rock platforms by the sea let you get close to the action. The mark is quite isolated. Killard can be tricky if the sea gets a lively so take care.

The coast near Chapeltown, not far from Ardglass, is good as well but a very tricky climb down over rocks and you would need to be fairly fit and travel light. Never fish these spots alone. Good marks are few hundred metres along and down from a little group of old abandoned cottages.

Not places that would be suitable or safe for young kids though.

The UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO) produces free online tide tables for Killard and Ardglass (http://easytide.ukho.gov.uk/EasyTide...ide/index.aspx).

    Best of luck

    Alright Jon?

glad to hear that you have booked the cottage. I stayed in Annalong many moons ago when I was in the Scouts - great little spot.

Other attractions for the family roundabout are -

Newcastle Town - decent beach, outdoor salt water swimming pool, lots of arcades and amusements for the kiddies, pitch & putt, restaurants - usual sea-side attractions etc...

Tollymore Forest - Forest walks, picnic areas camping etc...

Tyrella Beach - good quality beach

Downpatrick - resting place of St. Patrick

I know there are boat charters in Carlingford Lough and possibly Newcastle/Kilkeel.

Whatever you do - have fun mate.

There is an aquarium in Portaferry about 30-40 mins drive from Annalong, you get a ferry across Strangford lough to it, would be a good day out for the kids and interesting for you as well!! If the weather is good you landed! Not too sure about boat hire, but im sure there sshould be someone there who could sort you out.
