whitby,gear
a few of the lads are asking what gear to use,
i use a penn wave blaster perker & 345gti reel
loaded with 60lb whiplash braid,i find that a good
combination for whitby...........
a few times ive used one of my uptide rods with a penn
850 multi and 40lb whiplash, that combo coped with ease.
its great sport using an up tider,a 6lb cod 200ft down
puts one hell of a bend on an uptider..........
rigs..........perks are a must,as are pink hokkies..
if shads are working when where there, then a
4ft flowing trace is the best way to fish them...
blue, white is what ive had the best results on. .
the tackle shop in whitby opens at 6.00 so you can get
all the gear there, and its alot cheaper to than over hear.
the cost of the boat is £40 each, expessive i know
but the fishings well worth it.
there is a cafe next door to the tackle shop to
which also opens at 6.00...........
cheers paul............................

that sounds good to me, is it all drift fishing or do you ever anchor the wrecks ?

hi steve,
no mate its all drift fishing, rough ground and wrecks.....
if it stays like it as been for the last 8 weeks, you wont need
any bait..........
if you do fancy a bit of bait fishing, then mackerel are in
plague proportions.theres loads of ling out there which
will take mackerel all day long, and plenty of big ones to.
should be a good days fishin with plenty of banter....
cheers paul.............................

I'm gonna cut down an old beachcaster (take 6 inch off the tip, 18 inches off the butt and stick a roller tip in) for pirking.
Probably use my trusty Abu 7500 with 40lb braid, although I will buy something with a bit more grunt if finances allow!
Sounds like it's gonna be class!!!

Hi Bob, the skipper should have spare rods on board, save you cutting down a longer rod, i can't go

but my partners in crime are going, [tony c & tonythescaff]. I have a spare uptider if you would like to use that i will send it with tony. Abu 7500 is ok for the job, especially if it has got the level wind still on.

Hi the guy in the tackle shop sells pirks and they are cheaper than fleece bay. the shads already come hooked up, if you are fishing a mackerel or squid bait for a ling at slack water, flowing trace, [80lb+ line] as a ling can bite through your line by the time you pull it up 200ft, and 6/0 hooks.
