Cozumel Mexico
I'm hoping to go to Cozumel for a couple of weeks next May/June. I know it's great for diving and snorkelling, but I can't find much info on fishing there - shore and off shore.
Has anyone got any experiences to share?
Are there any fishing restrictions there due to the coral reef?

There are a couple of previous posts covering that part of the Yucatan that might be of use - http://www.worldseafishing.com/forum...ghlight=Mexico and http://www.worldseafishing.com/forum...ghlight=Mexico. But I'm sure there will be others than can add their personal experiences.
As well as the offshore fishing, and there're a number of links on this site - http://www.cozumel-diving.net/fishing/ - there're also classic flats fishing opportunities.
What may also be of use is perhaps reading the posts, or posting to this Cozumel specific fishing forum - http://www.cozumel-hotels.net/yabbse...php?board=17.0. Or somewhere like http://tripadvisor.com is also often a useful source of information.

In terms of the offshore fishing there seemed to be some interesting reviews on this url - http://tinyurl.com/csngk - not all complimentary! Still at least it would give you a balanced view.
The impression I got reading this and other links was that, in line with many other touristy areas, you'll find there're many middlemen selling services. If at all possible try wandering around the marina and listen to other charters views before booking, preferably best with the individual captain.

H-Rex,
Just got back from cozumel a couple of weeks back. Great bonefish destination and plenty of snook and a few baby tarpon.
If you are there in may it is prime sailfish season. I used a guide and if you would like some recommendations drop me an email at m.mchugh@flyodyssey.co.uk

Cheers

Haydn,
No problems. For someone new to bonefishing this is the perfect spot to try. The fish were everywhere so if you blow a chance at a fish you know that you will get another shot soon after. The first few seconds of the hookup with a bonefish is something every fisherman should experience. These things take off like a rocket especially on the shallow flats of cozumel.
Drop me a line when you need more info.
Regards
Mat
