south east vs south the return
south east vs south coast the return
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
the return match will be held at Tilbury power station or grays wharf
date tba, and please dont start saying what days you can and cant fish.
fish
flounders, soles, bass and eels(which dont count)
bait
maddies, lug and rag (crab is not essential)
set up
2 rods max 4 hooks
Generally both areas are tackle friendly and fish can be caught at short and long range. You will be fishing of a grass bank at Tilbury so bring wellies if it has ben raining as the grass is uncut. Or on concrete with a wall so no rod rest if at Grays
I will try and peg the match before hand. Also you dont have to pay to fish unless you want to an optional pool of biggest score (point to size ratio) and biggest flat and biggest round.
Parking will be at End of World Car park in Tilbury but please try to get as few cars as possible as the car park is small.
Parking is also easy at Grays with a 2-5 minute walk depending where you park
The reason why I have picked 2 marks is that if the tides are above 5metres at Southend then the power station is unfishable as the water covers the grass. So depending on the tides the venue wil be moved to Grays (its next to Tilbury so bait and type of fish stays the same).
The reason why I want to fish these areas are:
1) It holds fish
2) Easy casting
3) Easy access for everybody
4) You dont get soaked by the waves
5) Grays easy parking short walk to fishing area (2-3 minutes)
6) Not a tackle graveyard
7) Pub 5 minute walk from Grays location (10 minute walk from Tilbury location)

the date is either the 8th or 15th of sept (both saturdays) it all depends on the time and height of the tides for those dates.

After checking my tide table we will be fishing the 8th of September at Tilbury from 21.30 to 02.00. High tide is around midnight and the depth at Southend is 5.4 metres.
Parking at the Worlds end pub and meet at 20.00 outside pub.2010 species

well to make everybody happy these are the choices
dates sat 8th sept high tide 11.04 am tide 5.0
sat 8th sept high tide 23.43 pm tide 5.4
sun 9th sept high tide 12.03 pm tide 5.4
sat 15th sept high tide 03.21 am tide 5.6
sat 15th sept high tide 15.30 pm tide 5.6
sun 16th sept high tide 03.48 am tide 5.5
sun 16th sept high tide 15.59 pm tide 5.5
The saturday 8th am tide could be fished at Tilbury as its not a very high tide, the 5.5 metres and above would have to be Grays on one of the wharfs (which means no rodrests)
I can fish any of these tides but then im not travelling from the south coast and having to get back home afterwards, so I will leave the descision up to you lot2010 species

If we fish at night then I think it will have to be the 23.43 tide on Saturday 8th. Otherwise, it would need to be the daylight tides on either Saturdays or Sundays. If these are popular spots would we struggle for room on weekend daytime tides?
The tides at 3.21am and 3.48am on 15 /16 September would be grim for those of us travelling - the whole journey up would be in darkness and the match times would presumably have to be something like midnight to 5am.
My own preference would be the 23.43 tide at Tilbury on Saturday 8th. Meet at the pub at 20.00, have a pint, get sorted and kick off with the times you suggest - 21.30 to 02.00.
EDIT - Now prefer Saturday 15th, 15.30 tideLast edited by Mark_S; 31-07-2007 at 20:11. Reason: Wife !

tilbury shouldn't be a problem to hold a match although you will be fishing over a grass bank on a tide over 5.4. Grays is a popular mark but if a peg is already taken then you can repick. Should be able to get 30+ anglers on both marks.
Another option is Tilbury yaucht club but its fishing on a mud bank and you have to move back when the tides comes in. Also wellies are a must.2010 species

From what I know of this spot, and I'm guessing Jason will confirm (by the way, camera with piccie in Brighton, me in Essex. Will be back South on Thursday) the night tide will see a significant increase in action. I would say from pure numbers of fishes point of view, the 8th looks a better prospect.

What I would like is for everybody to vote on what date and time and at the end of the week the date and time wins.
At nights there is an increase of eels (which dont count) along with bass, flounders and soles.2010 species
