Senegal
Hello All
Looking at several options for a bluewater fishing trip for next year. May, June or July suits me best to go and i have been advised to go to either Cape Verde or Senegal for this time of year for the Marlin run.
Cape Verde appeals for the Blue Marlin but apparently Senegal is popular with the french for Marlin , Sailfish , Sharks and other pelagic species. I am more tempted by Senegal as have a chance to catch a wider variety of pelagic fish.
Has anyone fished Senegal and is it any good?
Your help is appreciated

I watched a documentary on Senegal. It appears that the fishing rights have been sold to Russia or Japan. this has caused huge damage to fish stocks.
the local commercial fishermen are now really struggling.
it would be worth checking what is being caught before booking.

Hi Patfin
I am off to Cape Verde next year, boat sharing with another forum member.
Yes we are going specifically for the Marlin, but there is a very wide range of other blue water species to be had from Tiger Sharks, to Yellowfin, to Wahoo.
It is due to the numbers of Blue Marlin that can be caught that it has becomes such a popular venue and is now famous for that particular species that the others simply don't get a mention.
If you chose Cape Verde then you'll need to book very soon as most boats will fill up quickly.

I feel quite sure that when Ravelling Tangler and / or Panama Jack see this next they can tell you all about Didier. I understand he is very good.
I am going for a couple of weeks, but will be fishing 26th to 30th April.
We are going with Zak Conde and his crew man Marty aboard Amelia.

Apparently, this April just gone, Zak had 104(?) Blue Marlin actually Leader'd (not just strikes) of between 250lb and 750lb. That is one hell of a catch rate that I really have my fingers crossed he can duplicate next year!

You should enjoy yourself - I think he didn't do quite as well as "Bebiche" , "Hooker 1 & 2" or "Amelia" this year but he's done alright.
We would have tried targetting Tiger sharks a night ourselves if the Blue Marlin fishing hadn't been so amazing this year. However I guess there could be less spectacular jumping and more hard slog heave-ho with the shark, compensated for by the sight of truly impressive beast alongside.

Yes - I think it was because they had a particularly good season this Spring. Some people who might have thought about going somewhere else next year or waited a few months before booking leapt into booking next year straight away.
I should expect Ferd Wurtz on "Bebiche" is also booked up (although he is 'new' to it, only taking over from Pieter Dobler this year)
