Sarawak
Several of our Club members have successfully fished from Kuala Rompin for juvenile Black Marlin, Sailfish and other gamefish species. But that's on the Malaysian pennisular itself, just a few hours from Singapore.
If no one else with personal experience replies it is perhaps worth posting to the Sarawak forum on the TripAdvisor web site - http://www.tripadvisor.com. There're already a small number of posts on there that also may be of some use. Here's the url - http://www.tripadvisor.com/SearchFor...html&x=16&y=10.
If you're going on a works posting though, and will have opportunities to travel to other parts of Malaysia, this site may give you a starting point - http://www.malaysia.sawadee.com/adventure/angling.html.

I had a go but the insore waters were very shallow and muddy.
Did some casting into the mangroves and some trolling out and arround an island but had no joy at all.
The only boat hire I could sort out was a local fishing boat from a village in one of the national parks.
Personally, I'd be inclined to fish from the mainland.

There is some fantastic fishing around this area. The main angling options are to fish from Kuching or Bintulu.
Bintulu is good for Spanish Mackerel close in.....if you go further out you can fish the oil rigs for GTs and all sorts of other species. Fishing is illegal so you do have to sneak in during darkness with all your lights turned off! A charter boat can be hired from the local tackle shop...rates are negotiable.
Kuching is also great fishing for Spanish Mackerel, Grouper, Snapper, etc. Have even seen some nice Jewfish coming from this area. Small sharks can be a pain at times. This is one of the best charter boats there and in the past has catered for shared charters:

Another option is to fish the famous Spratlys aboard Crystal Coral....the Spratlys at times can fish really well for some very large fish. One of the best places around to catch a large oilfish. Check out this link for some contact information:

Hope this helps
Cheers

hi Panamajack
I'm in brunei at the moment, can you recommend fishing anywhere here, either beach, boat or fresh water, i'd also like to do some lure fishing in the rivers.
If you have fished in this area could you advise on what baits are better to use for various species.
Any help is appreciated

Ah, you've got me there. Perhaps it's my age but I can't recall any of our members having fished there. Sorry!
You might want to try posting to this web site - http://www.bruneifishing.com/. Someone there might be able to offer some suggestions.
All the Best.

Hi Mark,
The best skipper in the area is Captain Fred...who you can contact through the link Panamajack gave.
I know one person who fishes there regularly and he catches a lot of nice snapper...with some amberjacks, grouper and shark thrown in.
Cheers
Dave
