Moving to WA
My wife and I will be moving to Perth in November from Wales, we have to stay in Perth for 6 months but then we hope to head further north in WA. I'm interested in starting kayak fishing and am wondering if anyone knows of any clubs or groups who could give me some advice etc. I've bought a few books on fishing in WA and I'm looking forward to wetting a line there

Good luck with your move to WA. Its a great place to live.
Do you have any ideas of where you wish to go to after your first 6 months?
Anywhere north of Canarvon, about 900Kms north of Perth and it gets pretty hot. You'll need to bring the 30+ sunscreen.
Fishing north is unbelievable. You'll need a big Kayak if you go searching for GT's or Spanish.
Look me up when you arrive, you never know, I may be of some help to you somehow.

i have fished north of perth at monkey mia which is in shark bay.the fishing from the shore out of this world, sharks, rays,to name but a few, only need to cast-out 15 feet but you need to fish heavy.lots of line, big reels to stop a 100lb ray heading for the sunset.we also had good snapper up to 20lb boat fishing using light gear.hope your move goes well.

Stax we don't know where we'll be moving to after 6 months. My wife is joining WAPOL so after the initial training period we'll be looking for a posting up north we traveled ther for a year in 98 so we know we don't want to settle in Perth so anywhere from Geralton up would suit us. Where do you live? I'd love to meet up when I get out there local knowledge is always invaluable.I'd love to go to steep point with you those photos you posted look to good to miss.

I live in Redcliffe, Perth, near the airport.
When you do arrive do look me up, we can have a beer or two.
I have a few friends in WAPOL and AFP and good luck to your wife on that one.
Send me an email or PM and I'll make sure we catch up.
(Sorry I can't send you a PM as you are aware.)
Thanks

Dai,
My wife, children and I are also moving to Perth from Cardiff in November. I fished from the shore last year, when on our recce, around Perth and on Rottnest island, it's great fun, huge variety to catch so easily.
I am staying in Mindarie / Butler for the first few months until we buy somewhere. It would be great to catch up for a session if you fancy it.
Cheers

Tony,
It's a small world we're staying in Mindarie with relatives untill my wife knows where she is going to be posted. I'd love to meet up and have a sesion my tackle won't be arriving till Junuary but I'm sure I can have a lend. I arrive on 19th December so I'll get in touch when I get there. Good luck with the move and see you down under.

Hi,
Great news, Mindarie is beautiful. It has a large breakwater where we caught tailor fish and puffer fish, and many others we didn't recognise. Don't worry about the tackle, we bought very cheap and light spinning rods last year which we're taking with us. We free-lined small blue frozen sardines which we cast about 10 yards and they were hit nearly every cast. No need for beachcasters and 6oz grip leads.
We hope to be out there before the end of the month, looking to exchange on our house sale on Tuesday and we'll be off the following week.
Went conger bashing in Barry today, probably my last session over here, it's one of very few aspects of life in the UK which I'll miss.
PM me when you get there and we can arrange to meet up.
Cheers
Tony
