i go to kenya every year, this year we had a couple who were over for the diving at our dinner table.
they saw loads of fish but no sharks.
from the boat, the shark marks are well off shore and in fairly to very deep water.
don't know if i would dive on those marks, there is 1500lb+ tigers out there, if a boat is on this mark fishing for them and it gets a line or something round the prop they get towed 4 miles away before someone puts a mask on to dive in and fix it
i think if you want to go shark diving, stick to the bahamasFB-ABR Boys-Made to Mortify

we stay in watamu....
it's a marine reserve so it's a no fishing zone for visitors, but there wouldn't be anyone to stop you trying at night (you didn't hear this from me, ok??)
there is a fantastic looking beach north of malindi at a place called mambrui i don't think the reserve reaches here.
i was talking to a couple of guys who have fished it in the past, now these guys claimed to have fished namibia several times, and they hooked fish from this beach which were unstoppable, either big sharks (bull shark most likely as it's very near the mouth of kenyas second biggest river) giant trevally or massive stingrays.
to the best of my knowledge there is no shore guides in the area, though there will be plenty con men who will claim to know what they are talking about among the locals, i think there is a lot to explore, there is a fantastic looking rock mark on a headland at ngomeni, again about 1/2 an hour north of malindi, you can catch barracuda, kingfish, GT, sharks and tuna within 100 yards of it, but i can guarantee you no-one has ever fished it with a rod and line.
the one time me and my mate tried from the shore was at watamu, on the outer edge of the lagoon at our hotel, first cast with a dexter wedge i hooked a big silver flash which dumped about 30 yards of line off my reel in 2 seconds and gobbed it, possibly a 'cuda, my mate had a cast and hooked a fish which took about 250 yards of line in about 2 minutes and reefed him, probably a trevally of some kind, but we ended up with a lecture from some guy about the reserve so we didn't try again, it was too scary on the sharp coral to try in the dark.
this year we are at a different hotel on a steep sandy beach and i saw loads of small trevally when i was getting ferried out to my boat this year, might give it a go in the dark next year
hope this helpsFB-ABR Boys-Made to Mortify
