    Suzuki Fishing in Yokohama Bay

Just had my first attempt at catching Suzuki (Japanese Sea Bass). These fish fight similar to our UK version and grow to about the same size.

You can catch these fish on bait, jigging....or the preferred way in Japan, casting minnows and poppers on light tackle.

Here's a couple of pics of my best fish from last night...

    Cheers

    Hi DaveIrving

    Nice Fish !

I just got back from vacation in Japan last weekend. Never managed to get fishing but was on the lookout for an interesting tackle shop or two. Unfortunately only came across 2 which were not really catering for the shore angler . Any chance you have details of where I may find this type of outlet in the Tokyo area as I may be back there next year ?

Nice fish. You can see hat they're a close cousin of the barramundi.

    Hi Acercon3,

You will not find any gear aimed at the UK style shore fishing over here. The Japanese fish entirely differently with very long very flexible light rods for a lot of their shore angling. Spinning outfits and baitcasting gear can be found here although I don't have any shops to recommend.

The only one I use is in Yokohama and caters mainly for jigging and popping:

    www.proshopmogi.jp

Unfortunately it's all in Japanese which I cannot read!

    Hi Ken L,

Yep very similar to Barramundi....you have to cast close to structure to catch them and when you hook them they do jump and head shake like a Barramundi.

I think they are an even closer relative of snook which you get in the US.

    Cheers

    Dave

    Hi DaveIrving

Thanks for the info. Specifically my interest lies in spinning/lures/popping so was a little disappointed that I did not come across any interesting outlets whilst in Japan.
Does the company featured in the link stock a range of floating/popping plugs by the leading manufacturers ?

    Hi Acercon3,

There are numerous tackle shops around, I just haven't found them yet as I have just moved here. Suzuki lures will be perfect for the UK, I just need to find the shop that sells them. I have heard that there is a shop called Sansui somewhere close to Yokohama JR Station. Here's the website:

    http://www.ne.jp/asahi/yokohama/sansui/

Mogi's shop is aimed at the high end jigging and popping market....mostly top of the range gear like Smith, Shout, Seven Seas, etc. The popping gear is mainly for casting for GT's, Dogtooth, Yellowfin and Bluefin Tuna....if thats what you are after then this shop is considered one of the best.

    Cheers

    Dave
