Melia Pier: Cayo Guillermo, Cuba
I have just heard that that the Melia Pier on Cayo Guillermo, a popular spot for fishing in Cuba, has been destroyed from the 1st hut onwards by tropical storm Noel. They say that they will rebuild it asap.
Here's what it used to look like.

Just a quick update on the pier. Apparently the end hut is still intact and can be reached on a pedalo. I believe repair work on the pier will commence on 15/12.

Another quick update on the pier - just picked up a post on another forum. As of the 26th January no building work on the pier had commenced.

Here's a panoramic shot of the Melia Pier as it is today which was recently posted on the Cubamania forum. The image is quite big so it's probably better to use the link rather than the thumbnail.

Just another quick update on the pier but a bit of good news this time. Have just heard that rebuilding work on the pier commenced in February with two sections now having been repaired.

Melia Pier reconstruction
Well ....They finally started rebuilding the pier as of Mid December 2008.
I just hope it is all completed for my 7 th trip to the MCG in October 2009.Attached are pictures from Eidel in Customer Service who will send me more when work is completed.I dont think the pier will be rebuilt to its orriginal length when the pier at the Cojimar was attached to the Melia Pier. The circular part at the beach was orriginally the end of the Melia Pier.
Cheers

hi all
been to the melia in cuba 9 times, the pier is getting longer as we speak (cuban time) was there in december 08 and back again in may 09 and dec 09 love the place. the two weeks we where there the workmen worked two days, they where pi$$ed most of the time lol. most of the time they ran out of wood. they are putting the pilling by hand, and are using a piece of h girder with scaffoldin welded onto it to drive the wood pilings in to the sea bed.
i was told by mario the melia director, they are getting contractors, with a barge to put the end pilings in as the water is two deep at the end regardsfriends are like stars, you do not always see them but you know they are always there.
