    Portsmouth Catch Report

Following news of big bass, tried a night session on Clarence Beach. Lots of small fish caught by the guy I was fishing with. Mainly pouting, but a couple of very small whiting. I was fishing big baits, one at range and one close in. Took a small pollock close in and caught a 5 pound bass at range. Only thing is I am not sure what I caught it on...was fishing a squid/ragworm bait and got some little bites prior to the big bass take, and upon reeling it in found that I had a pout on my two hook pennel as well as the bass. This begs the question was the bass going for the bait or the fish. Not sure, but the squid is doing well at the moment. Where are the cod?

the bass would almost certainly be going for the pout.

great livebait close in for bass.you would be amazed at how big a fish a 5lb bass will take.

this summer off "trio" out of langstone i caught a 3.5lb bass on a live 8" scad.

fished out of langstone harbour abord "trio".
no cod but plenty of whiting/pouting/doggies.
sea had a heavy swell left over from earlier gales.
no rain so not too bad averall.
