    Advice on Sri Lanka

I am off to Sri Lanka in July and would like some advice on what sort of fishing is available and whether it is better to take my own gear with me or go on an organised trip?

I will be staying in a place called Beruwala

Any advice would be very helpful

    Cheers

    arabdragon, welcom to the forum.

I normally go to sri lanka once or twice a year and stay in - you've guessed it........Beruwela.

    Now for the rub.
The only real fishing I have done here is spearfishing. Now before anyone gets all arsey in the rights and wrongs I may have some useful info for you.

    Spot no. 1.

Right off the shore on Bentota beach where the river meets the sea is a nice deep water channel. Trust me, 6 steps out and the water is over your head.
I have caught some good size Barramundi in this channel.
Either side of where the tourist boats sit on the beach will be fine for spinning some lures. You will also find Barracuda chasing the fry right up to the waters edge.

On full moon nights, people drive down specially from Colombo just to fish here.
It does get a bit mad on the beach though.
The currents can also be quite fierce depending upon rainfall etc.

    Spot 2.
The lighthouse on an island has some nice reefs on its N/western sides. You'll need a boat to get out there but there are some nice oppurtunities for trolling.

We have a good friend who lives in beruwela and organises all of our tour etc. He knows just about everyone in the area and can find most things for you.
He can organise short trolling trips up the Bentota river for Barramundi etc.

Sorry I can't be more precise on kit needs etc as I tend to 'get in there'!!

If you want my friends contact details, then pm me.

    Have fun.
