Shore fishing st.kitts and nevis
Lucky enough to be going to nevis, off st. kitts at the beginning of february. Have a few days off, and booking a days charter fishing. However, I will be taking my spinning gear and a few lures. Anyone any advice on locations and/or methods? Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks.

St Kitts & Nevis
Hi Nick
Welcome to the International forum and I have to say, based on your nom de plume, glad that Bananas aren't on 'the menu'. Um ... never been a fan of taking those on a game boat. Nor are many skippers I fish with!
Any rate whilst the only advice I could offer would be fairly generalised, and applicable to anywhere in the Caribbean, I had waited to see if anyone had specific information. Not yet it seems.
Initially could I suggest that you read the threads on the http://www.tripadvisor.com web site. When I checked, using 'fishing' as a search word, it came up with five pages of matches. Might well be something there of use?
Back to the general though. It's not an area I'm aware of with tremendous potential for the classic Flats species - Bonefish, Permit and Tarpon. But I may be totally wrong! If they are present though only the Tarpon would realistically be lure targets.
For both Bones and Permit sight casting with bait would be the order of the day - Shrimp, Crab (whole or bits) and bits of Conch. Bait holder hooks, some heavier leader material and 'lead' shot would be the order of the day. Or tiny jigs they can work, baited or unbaited. Search through the Caribbean forum though there some very detailed references to tackle and technique.
Similarly for Tarpon. But, yes you can take them on lures or livebaits. For livebaits I prefer using circle hooks - they tend to stay 'stuck'!
For other species though and firstly Jacks. I've always found that surface poppers fished fast work best. YoZuri Hydro Tigers are good, but there're many others you can use. Jacks don't respond well to lures fished slowly, they'll zoom in initially and quickly lose interest. As to Barracuda I would suggest you use tube lures (they have a wire trace integrated into their design) that mimic Needlefish. There you need to cast about 20' away and just crank as quick as you can. You'll never wind quickly enough to outpace a Barracuda.

I fished from my uncles boat out of trinidad years ago. We caught barracuda and tuna type fish trolling rappala lures and deadbaits!
