Maggots are a good allround bait which you should be able to get from a local tackle shop! Ask a local tackleshop owner what bait and rigs to use for bigger carp as this is where things can get complicated! ie boilies, hairigs etc! Also try bread, sweetcorn and luncheon meat as easy supermarket baits.

    Bream love worms.
Men are like fish, we only get into trouble when we open our mouth.

Maggots (try to find out which colour(s) work best on the waters you intend to fish)
Casters (what i prefer to use, especially if the roach + bream are being finicky. Tend to avoid the smaller fish aswell)
Worms (though i have little luck with them on my usual spots)
    Sweatcorn
    Boilies (small)
    Bread
and lastly hemp seed if you can be bothered

Sweetcorn & meat (luncheon, chopped ham & pork, spam or bacon grill) depends which you favour really, but @ this time of the year & with all the rain we've had, the lake will be up with cold water.

Assuming you're going to Center Parks in the Lake District, don't know if they've a tackle shop onsite as i've never been. Tackle shops can be a bit thin on the ground. Though i've got maggots from a few garages up there, you've not a lot of choice with colour really as what they've got you get basically. Also you may get your maggots in sawdust as opposed to maize.

Never under estimate the humble maggot, especially in the colder weather, small maggot feeder or maggot catapult if you're float fishing & little & often should get the roach feeding & a better stamp of fish will turn up eventually.

    Tight lines, Taz.

Worms are a real good bait.Experimented on the Severn this year and found they outfished all other baits for every species I tried for.Unlike sea fishing, keep your baits small.A size 8 hook with 2 or 3 pieces of worm 1/2 to 3/4 inches long will work wonders,it will also select the better roach and barbel, chub and perch if present.
If allowed,Siver x groundbait mixed with sweetcorn and molasses acts as a great attractant for bream and carp.Oddly, found many groundbaits work better if a few days old, you'll know when as it will smell a bit sour
