What is meant when people talk of a rod having a spine?
I thought that it refers to the rod having a stiffer "side". this is not mentioned on the clip.

The spine would have been the edge of the glass/carbon fibre cloth. With modern ultra thin cloths and the high pressure rolling the spine is much less evident.

If you hold the tip section of your rod with your finger on the tip ring, and the spigot end on the floor, then compress it by pressing down, the rod will form an arc.it is on this line that the eyes should be whipped.
I have had some rods which bend with the eyes side of the bend, making casting inaccurate.
it is easier to do this with just a blank but you can do it with the rings attatched.
This is called the spine of the rod.
    Hope this helps
