lumpy chesil

got to ferrybridge at 1400 and walked along back of beach. when finally walked over top got hit by wind and rain. straight in face from a southerly direction.
set up camp above high tide mark and wind increased to probably 30mph. what with this and ground swell was well uncomfortable. photo doesn't do bad weather justice
stuck it out and weather front passed with wind dropping and swinging to WNW, now blowing right across beach from right to left, but at least able to cast out reasonable distance and anchor bait up in tide.
fish started coming in the form of pout, poor cod and dogs.
after dark size of fish increased with best pout at 2lb 4 oz.
got my first whiting of the season.
Deano and birds-nest and a couple of the other guys turned up, nice to finally meet you all.
wind increased as a rain front passed through then dropped off again. finally managed 4lb cod as getting ready to pack up before midnight.
this was followed by another cod to Deano's group.
decided to call it a night, leaving the others to fish on.

Went over moonfleet area today at 7 am ,sea was lovely colour and easy fishable, my mate had a 6 lb codling first chuck using hermits, then had a small bass, Me i had dogs and pout every chuck till the ebb got away when in 3 casts produced 2 codling about 4.5 lb each on whole squid, at about half past 2 pm my mate shouted for me.I could see he was into a big fish . it took maybe ten minutes for him to get it to the shore ,whereby i gilled . on his scales it weighed 13.5 lb. inside it was sprats and crabs. he caught it on short pulley rig ,size 4/0 hooks and whole squid, going again in morning .

bads news that the fish was full of sprats. that should totally mess up the chances of many more decent cod as they start to gorge on the sprat shoals.
