does anyone own a daiwa meanstreak....
....
if so what do you think of it and how good is the bite detection and how does it perform.
what would you compare it to.
also because of the price is it still daiwa quality or is there a not so popular brand that i should be considering that could be better.
i have also checked out the theory and the supercast.
i was considering GREYS APPOLLO mk3 but a little pricy for a rod.
cheers

I had 2 before I sold them on to upgrade.
They are not as stiff as the name suggests, the 6&bait is a lot stiffer.
Casts 7oz no worrys but preferred 5oz. Both my rods went to friends who really like them.
For a budget rod (there was a guy on ebay selling them for £25 new !) you would be hard to beat it. I used mine fishing the Mersey and in all weathers and they coped fine. Tip was a little bouncy in a strong wind but the bite detection I thought was very good.
Finish on them is very good for the price but the rings are prone to chips if you drop them (but then a lot of rods 4 times the price are the same unless you have the green fujis)

hi
im kinda new to the winter cod fishing, so im looking for a descent rod thats not to expensive, idealy i would like a rod that can yank those cock out of kelp a nd rocky marks before they deside to lose thereselves.
also want the slightest wee nibble to show up, so not really sure what rod im looking for.
everybody seem to have a greys, century or zziplex but i just find these rods to be a bit pricy

If you can give us a rough idea of how much you want to spend, it would be easier to recommend a rod for rough ground.
If you can go up to £100 there are a lot of excellent rods about,
If you want something around £50 in the shops then the Meanstreak is worth looking at.
No matter what advice you get, always try to have a feel of the rod first.

tbh the meanstreak is no where near the same league as the greys or the century.

I've had my meanstreak for over a year now and swear by it, i've pulled in 10lb conger and 12.5lb bull huss up a steep rock and it has never let me down. It casts well enough off the beach and to be fair i still prefer it to my salt mx. in my eyes for the money you spend on them i don't think you'll get a much better rod. i payed £49 for mine and would quite happily pay it again if my rod gave up now.
