no mate it wont, when i have targeted mullet i have found a eight hook and a flurocarbon snood perfect
if you are just starting to fish for them ,fish on the bottom with a 3 hook paternoster with 10 cm snoods and a nice soft white bread as bate
remember and threw in squeezed up fist fulls of the bread as a groundbait
then set up your gear ,by the time you start to fish,
the mullet should be feeding
always watch your line for bites using this method its the best bite indicator
when you find them this is the best way to begin fishing for them
tight lines gary

It will if your rod is too stiff.
For 6lb line use a heavy feeder / carp waggler / avon rod and you should be fine.

If the drag on the reel is set correctly you won't snap the line or tear the hook from it's hold on the fish.

airght mate.
mullet will drive you insane . they are the pretty clever fish and very hard to hook as they have small mouths. your tactics sound ok. you could try a flurocarbon hook length or try free line a bait to them but be warned they willl drive you nuts.

Yup, that's partly true - you could use a 50lb class rod for mullet with the drag unwound if you wanted. But the wrong rod / line combination won't bend into a fish properly, and therefore won't be able to carry out its shock absorbing / fish tiring / hooklength-protecting duties.

use a fluorocarbaon line around 6lbs to 10lbs straight through, always use light gear quiver-tip feeder rods or light spinning rods are superb equipment, strong hooks are a must, I prefer to use a size 8 or 10 lureflash viper circle hook.
