ETIVE- windsock meet 27th sept 08

Well friday night janet and i had everything packed and decided to head off, we arrived @ 4am saturday, i was going to fish but it was blowing a hoolie and raining so we just set tent up, got the gear and had a wee sleep,

We were greeted by tons of discarded line, some rigs and rubbish, we cleared it away, shame some people just throw rubbish like that around,
I sarted to set my fishing gear up at around 1pm, 2 rods, 2 slosh30 heavy duty! i was using squid, sandeel, mackeral and Bluey there was nothing much doing during the light, i got a mackeral on the bottom ( not mine ) with a 4/0 and macky

cm75 showed up which was a relief, we had a crack then they set up, a bit later Seaangler-02 , grwright159 and another friend of theirs appeared, we chatted and they told us about the mark, this was the first time i had fished it,

Nothng happened till it was dark, grwright159 was first into a spurry wich was away down tide, it was tagged and released, the tide running strong, my rod was pulling hard but looked more like a fish than tide, i was pumping and cranking the reel, it was heavy and i could feel something, water was low and there are bad snags close in a ledge or cable Seaangler was saying, i cranked it some more but it went solid, i pulled to get it free...PING! my trace snapped, which was strange,
I was GUTTED! i began telling Colin about it then started telling myself it was just weed

I cast uptide and let it come round again, ratchets were off tide too strong the rod started to bend a little, it had to be a fish, i got cranking and pulled in a fat doggy 2.10lb,
cm75 was also into one, thats our blanks out the way

As i was baiting up my orionM2 started to bend and lift the rod rest, i grabbed it and managed to heave the wieght up, i got to the snags and thought " not this time matey!" i pumped and reel as hard as i could and cleared the snags, this was what i got for my efforts, it was on bluey/squid wrap, there had been a big crab on my bait and was still hanging on when i landed the thorny, right at its mouth, it let go and scuttled off, close shave for that one lol

I was saying to janet the last time i was fishing for spurry it went doggys, thorny, spurry

Sure enough one of the other lad was into a spurry of 7/8lb

I was reeling another doggy in and Colin's (cm75) rod started going mental, and so did mine
I was fishing circle hooks on this one and never managed to hook it, its the first time i have tried them, looks like i have lots of practice to do,
Colin however was over the moon to land his first spurry, well done m8!

There was more action, i got another dog and the boys further up the beach got 6 spurry in total i think and tagged 3, i dont have pics for them though, well done guys! tag and release,
I caught a purple 5 pointed starfish and then during day break this one, what kind is it?

more pics

It was nice to meet you all, we caught fish! some even got tagged, had a great time,
Thanks to the lads....All you can eat for a fiver! i was ready for that one!

Cheers, bye

Great report Supafly & thanks for posting the pic of my spurrie as Lewis still didnt really believe i caught one!

After a slow start, it turned into a good night with 7 Spurdog, Thornie & several dogs between the 5 anglers that turned up.

Still buzzing about catching my 1st spurrie

Was good to see the bigger spurs getting tagged.

Wont be able to make it to Sunart as working that weekend

Now thats annoying we fished the exact same mark 3 weeks ago and i also took so much rubbish line off the shore line. Come on guys and gals it would not kills you to put rubbish line and stuff in a wee polly bag and put it in the bin when you get home. That said good report on the mark well seen i fished it during the day and gor sfa.
I say in Ardrossan you know the hassle we have had with the harbours good spots being closed off cause of one kerrs remeber the old saying folks "KEEP SCOTLAND TIDY" "DUMB THE RUBBISH IN ENGLAND" LOL
Lift the litter it doesnt take much to enjoy the fishing.

That's a Sun Star... named as such for obvious reasons They grow quite big, and can be found in different colours.
