The latest thing regarding shark fishing is cathch and release. Because they are so vulnerable, and are so few in numbers.
So from the summer of 2009 all sharks will be released

Have a chat with one or two anglers that have been.
....not sure many will bother going back again.

The Faroe Islands seem to suffer a problem in that most of their skippers share their boat between angling and commercial fishing.
When they have anglers on board, they just seem happy to catch quantities of small fish, not appreciating that as sport fishermen, we would prefer to look for larger specimens, even if there's a chance we don't get any.
Magni Blastein is different. He's a young skipper who does it for sport.
He has made some mistakes regarding the Porbeagles, but I think he has picked up lots of information that puts him on the right track.
He knows the area, understands sports-fishermen and has top class gear.
When I fished with him he tried his hardest to get us a Halibut, even though conditions were awful. He could have put us over fish on sheltered marks but he knew we wanted a Big H. We didn't get one, but you couldn't fault him for trying.
If you're going to the Faroes, get on Magni's boat, but don't expect huge Cod as many anglers do. Faroes has good Haddock and the potential for huge flatfish. But, for Cod, it' not a patch on Iceland or Norway.

Hello Pel,
I have to take it as a compliment....but it fits with my favorite motto "fishing is not a matter of life or death...Itīs more important than that !!"
Anyway, some of the big fish for 2008 were
Plaice 3.6 kg
Cod 10.5 kg
halibut 10 kg
Porbeagle caught in the summer...150 kg
whiting 3 kg
you can see more pict and videos on www.fishingwithblastein.com
