General Information

REPORTING SUSPECTED ILLEGAL NETS AND FISHING ACTIVITY IN OUR REGION.

PLEASE READ AND ADD ANY APPROPRIATE NUMBERS TO YOUR MOBILE PHONES.

As requested, i have gathered some numbers for people to ring to report any netting or other frishing activity they see which they think might be illegal.
These numbers will be added to over time, so if you think you can add to the list, please PM me with details.
Thanks.

Sea Fisheries Committees have juristiction out to 6nm. If an incendent is reported to them, they will act on it.

Cornwall Sea Fisheries District.

Call 01736 369 817
Ask to speak to Simon Cadman who is the fisheries officer in charge of enforcement issues. Nice chap

Isles of Scilly

Call 01720 424 043
Ask to speak to Steve Watt.

Devon Sea Fisheries District.

Call 01803 854 648
Ask to speak to Ryan Barter who is the angling leasons officer.

Environment Agency also has jurestiction out to 6nm under the salmon and freshwater fish act. Their main concern is with the protection of salmon and sea trout from surface nets.

Environment Agency Incedent Hotline:-

0800 80 70 60

Apparently; if you take off the first zero (when calling from a mobile) it will automatically put you through to you nearest local office.

Be sure to use this hotline number as cases will automatically be prioritised over calls made by alternative routes.

Info Supplied by Poughill Reef...

For reporting suspicious activity The Environment Agency could do with knowing this information in order to act.

*)Are the nets fixed (with anchors or to rocks etc)?

*)Are there surface floats?

*)A clear and precise description of any vessels in attendance (colour shape registration, number of people etc)

*)Any registrations of vehicles using to launch boats with nets on board or who are suspected of netting.

And the most important thing is to ring 0800 80 70 60 and report it to the EA!!!!!

The EA will not respond to 'hearsay' but if it is witnessed first hand with clear evidence i.e description and good location details a Water Bailiff will attend.

Thank you

Exclamation Warning About Birnbeck Island & Peir

AS THERE SEEMS TO BE A FEW POSTS DEVELOPING ON THIS AND OTHER FORUMS I AM TAKING THIS OPPORTUNITY TO WARN ANYONE WHO THINKS? WANTS TO? INTENDS TO FISH THE BIRNBECK ISLAND OR PEIR???
FIRSTLY IT IS PRIVATE PROPERTY AND CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC??

2/ IT IS TOTALY UNSAFE TO BE ON OR AROUND AS THE FOLLOWING PICS WILL SHOW??

3/ THIS FORUM HAS ALREADY LOST A MEMBER TRYING TO FISH THIS MARK? I FOR ONE AND I SPEAK FOR A LOT OF PEOPLE ON THIS FORUM DO NOT WANT TO SEE A REPEAT OF THIS DUE TO THE FACT SOME PEOPLE THINK IT WOULD BE COOL TO FISH IT??

4/ THE LIFEBOAT CREW HAVE ENOUGH PROBLEMS ON THEIR PLATES WITHOUT HAVEING TO COPE WITH ATTEMPTED RESCUES ON THEIR DOORSTEP THE TIDAL RUN UNDER AND AROUND THIS PIER IS THE FASTEST AND THE STRONGEST IN WESTON BAY?
A TESTOMY TO HOW FAST THEY ARE THERE IS A RECORD OF A WOMAN JUMPING OFF THIS PIER AND THE BARRY LIFEBOAT RECOVERD HER BODY OFF BREAN DOWN 45 MINUTES AFTER SHE WENT IN THE WESTON LIFEBOAT WAS STILL HEADING OUT AT THE TIME??
THE POWER AND STRENGHT OF THESE TIDES ARE UNIQUE TO THIS AREA?
ANOTHER INCINDENT FOR THE RECORD?
A SMALL BOAT DECIDED TO ANCHOR UP OFF THE END OF BREAN DOWN WITNESSED BY THE PEOPLE AND SKIPPER OF A LOCAL CHARTER BOAT IN THE TIME IT TOOK FOR THE PERSON WHO SET THE ANCHOR TO GET TO THE BACK OF HIS BOAT AND CAST OUT A LINE THE FRONT OF THE BOAT WENT UNDER IT TOOK ABOUT 4 MINS FOR IT TO SINK AT ANCHOR AND 2 LIVES WHERE LOST??

AS YOU CAN SEE THE RESPONSE TIMES OF THE LIFEBOAT AT CERTIAN TIMES AND TIDAL STATES ARE IRRELIVENT???

SO IT IS DOWN TO YOU TO LEARN KNOW AND STUDY THE RISKS IS IT WORTH IT FOR A FEW FISH??

THE ANSWER IS NO!!!!!!

THE IMMINENT DANGER EXCLUSIVE TO BIRNBECK ISLAND IS THIS IF YOU GOT OUT ON THE REEF YOU IF LUCKY GET A COUPLE OF HOURS AT MOST YOU MAY BE LULLED INTO THE FACT THE TIDE SEEMS SLOWER COMMING IN AT THE BACK OF THE PEIR SANDBAY SIDE AND THE FACT YOU CAN STILL SEE THE BEACH YOU WALK ACROSS ?
THAT IS WHEN YOU FIND OUT TO LATE THAT THE BEACH HAS HELD THE TIDE COMEING IN FROM THE WESTON SIDE AND WHEN IT COMES IN AROUND AND OVER THE BEACH ITS 20_30 MINUTESTO ENGULF AND COVER THE BEACH?
THEN YOU ARE STUFFED IF YOU TRY AND RUN THE GAUNTLET YOU WILL NOT SUCCEED AS OUR FORMER MEMBER ALAN WRIGHT FOUND OUT TO LATE ?
THAT COST HIM HIS LIFE??

SO IT WILL COST YOU YOURS SO STAY OF IT?

ALSO YOU WILL SEE BY THESE PICTURES THE SAD AND DANGERUOSE STATE OF THE PIER?
ALSO TAKE NOTE YOU WILL HAVE TO GO UNDER THE MAIN PEIR AND THE FORMER STEAMER PIER TO GET TO THE REEF???

THE POSSIBLE IMMINENT COLAPSE IS BAD ENOUGH BUT THE MAIN DANGER OF FALLING DEBRIS SO DOUBLE JEPORDY FOR ANYONE THINKING OF FISHING IT?

SO REMEMBER THE FATE OF ALAN WRIGHT AND TAKE A GOOD LONG LOOK AT YOUR LOVED ONES AS IT MAY BE YOUR LAST MEMORY IF YOU CHOSE TO IGNORE THIS ADVICE?

ON TOP OF WHICH I HAVE BEEN INFORMED ANYONE CAUGHT OUT THERE WILL BE PROSECUTED IT IS PRIVATE PROPERTY??

SO HERE ARE SOME A NASTOLGIC PICTURES OF THE PIER IN ITS HEYDAY? AS IT IS NOW ???AND THE PLANS FOR THE FUTURE IF THERE IS ANY???

THE ORIGINAL BURNBECK PIER

WITH THE WATER SCHUTE AND SLIDES

AS IT IS TODAY NOTICE THE BEACH ON THE RIGHT GOING UNDER WATER THAT IS THE ONLY ACCESS POINT TO THE ISLAND ITS DANGEROUSE???????????????????????????????????????? ???
THIS IS THE BEACH WHICH COST THE LIFE OF A FORUM MEMBER REMEMBER THIS PLEASE???

tnx

thankyou mods and everbody for the sticky.

its in our interest as a forum and to protect our members and enyone else that is trolling the forum for information?

it is a saftey exercise and common sense?
it is also here to make sure that burnbeck island and pier does not claim another life in the interest of angling?

but this not only applies to birnbeck island it applies to everyone of us that pursues the art of sea angling the sea shows no mercy? is without remorse ?and has more mood swings than a cat has lives?it is also the most powerfull destructive force of nature on the planet? uncontrollable? unstoppable? unconquerd? unmasterd? and un predictable?

so be aware of where you are going check the weather get to know the marks try not to go alone let people know where you go and let people know when you are going and when you will be back?

be safe not stupid you have families freinds think of them as well as yourself its not to much to ask and its the simple things that count?

my only wish is the fact that this information was available earlier so that a tragedy could be avoided but foresight is a luxury?
hind sight is a reflection ?

so reflecting on the loss of alan wright take a note of the lesson learned the price paid and take heed of the warning??

as someone said in an earlier post?

fish where you are able?
somewhere safe and stable?

once agian my thanks to every one????

tight lines and stay safe?

with that note i leave you these guidelines?

1/ check weather and tides?

2/ make a note of the emegancy numbers
if you have mobiles log in coast guard numbers for your area?

3/ let people know where you are going give times when you expect to return ?

4/ dont go alone if you have to pick an easy safe mark?

5 if you fish rock marks headlands etc invest in some portable flares so the emergancy services can locate you easier?

6/wear suitable clothing that can be seen reflective water proof warm etc
suitable footwear

7/be aware of where you are fishing how you got there and make sure you have a safe retreat?

8/ above all else do not venture over rocks ledges or grassy clifftops in wet weather one slip and its at best a few broken bones at worst a life threatening injury? or your life itself this practice can prove fatal?

these might sound stupid but they are practical ?

you have been warned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so fish safe

posted in memory of alan wright lest we forget???
