Spool spin times

Just wondering, when seeing how long a spool will spin for, is it generally longer with either a flick with the thumb, or spinning handle and pushing in spool release method?

Cos the reel i'm on about has a free spool lever Dai, not button, and I cant help thinking you get faster acceleration by "pushing the button" rather than flicking the lever as it's easier to push the button in than flick the lever down.
May sound like I'm not making sense, but hope some1 gets what I mean

Don't think it really matters mate if it spins for to long it will bite you if it spins for 8-10 seconds that will do fine for fishing

I actually mean as a fishing reel. I just done a thumb flick test on my speedmaster 2, and am, to be honest, a bit warey of really "whacking it". It seems a bit fast, I just did a simple "thumb flick" and it seems scarily quick to me, bearing in mind it's got grease in the bearings and no spool float at all, oh, and it has got 2 largish blocks in 40 secs approx

Dunno what else I can do to slow it down, dont really wanna fit a mag on it if it can be avoided, thats for the FS.

Using a lighter gently warm the bearings in a teaspoon with 140 grade gear oil in it until bubbles stop coming out. I use the large fiber brake blocks from an abu 7000 and make sure the brake ring is clean. Depending on dia. keep line level well done from the spool lip.

A reel with blocks will spin for a lot longer than a magged reel from just a finger flick as it needs a lot higher spool speed to make the blocks rub hard enough on the rim to slow it down significantly, as it does when you cast it.

Mags are always active so will be applying braking no matter what speed it's spinning at.

wonder if you can coat the inside of the ring with rubber or 'grippy' varnish or something ? Of course, that would only last for a few casts ......

Others have written about getting their Speedmaster TSM2FSCs magged and the result is -apparently- generally good. May we ask what it is that makes you prefer not to do it (I ask becasue I am toying with the idea of doing just that) ?
