rockling fishing
can anyone help me to catch rockling have been trying for a while now and cant seem to get one . hook size tactics distance bait ect all advice would help .

Lee .My boy had one on a crabline last winter 
He is only 4 .
We was using a hindleg off a shetland pony as bait

Get down to Hythe in mid March-cast 30yds with a 3 hook flapper-size 4 hooks loaded with a small bit of week old lug-wait 5 mins-triple shot !! simples!!

Dont know about that Stuart, the last time I won the Fountain it was with flounders on shells', slimy slim 'jims' not expected til mid feb.
Though it beats Me why anyone would want to catch them!

I have had four at walmer in three trips over the last two weeks they have all taken lug tipped with a small piece of squid intended for dabs or whiting on a size 1 aberdeen, all have been on the bottom hook of a 3 rig loop rig, ie hard on the bottom.
Fished just in front of the castle at 40 -50 yards, all taken about 3 hours before high tide, when the tide gets going the whiting seem to out compete both the dabs and the rockling.

There are zillions of rocking off all the pebble beaches in Suffok. Try Orford, Aldeburgh etc. I guess they prefer a shingle or rock bottom to estuary silt...
