Lyme Bay for pollack ?
Chaps,
Aming to take our boat out of Exmouth in the next week - was going to be Thursday but the winds look like ruining that idea - and I wandered if anyone knows if the local Lyme Bay wrecks are worth fishing for pollack ?
I know at this time of year the pollack should be around in numbers and wandered rather than steaming off towards Dartmouth and some 20 miles out, whether the wrecks that offer good summer fishing will be worth while for the pollack - never hear of any charters from there so really havent got a clue !

Hi Tommy
The Exmouth and Weymouth boats will often be fishing the same wrecks, but WELL offshore from Lyme Bay.
Very roughly draw a line 20 miles South West of Portland Bill and you'll get an idea of the general area of wrecks that the boats may be fishing at this time of year.
The inshore wrecks may have the odd fish on them, but not lkely to hold many. That said, the ones that are there, may well be clonkers.
If you really want to fish Lyme Bay, look at the marks around 12 to 14 miles off. Be prepared to travel between wrecks a fair bit.

we took a few Pollack of an inshore wreck in the early Autumn in Lyme Bay. They took squid baits on small hooks aimed at Bream. The largest went 15lbs. Don't knwo if they move off in the winter though.
As Nautibusiness says, when I've been at this time of year the 20 mile run SW of the bill is the usual format.

My source in Dartmouth tells me the wrecks there are plastered with nets - local boats, cornish boats and a pair have come down from Grimsby to join in.

There will not be many wrecks without gear on them ATM - apart from those close inshore.
Any charter skipper will be burning the fuel steaming round looking for a clear berth - unless they have 'insider info' from one of the commercial boats.
The grimsby boats were down here last year, working a colossal amount of gear.
Combined with (as said) local boats and a couple from Cornwall - there wont be many wrecks spare, and I doubt anything will go untouched.
