Hi guys im looking to get a new spinning rod for when the lure season kicks off, what do you think of the berkley lightning rod? Also any others you would recomend me, the berkley seems really good value for money at £30 but i wouldnt mind spending a bit more.

Hi Si,
A mate of mine uses one of these but in 10 foot and swears by it. Sounds like the right money too - its a lot of rod for £30.

like the add says its a "light" action rod and would probably strugle with a decent fish and in a rough, weedy situation, also with a casting weight of up to 30g it is a little on the light side, many people go for rods rated up to 40-50g to launch some of the bigger lures, having said all that, i will be starting the new season even lighter than you and only time will tell if my 7' , 5-27g rod will be able to cope, have been looking at 8' 6" bushwacker as my next level up.

I have the 10 foot model that casts up to 55 grams, superb rod. 30 gram is light but it depends what you wish to attempt to target

After reading a bit more on here about it and also stumbling across a few other rods ive decided to go for the bushwacker 8'6 as it is a bit less forgiving.

From the opinions expressed on here and other forums, and for the price I think the Bushwacker is a sound choice. Even though I'm a ten foot advocate myself, if I were in the market for a new plugger I'd probably go for one of them myself.
Good luck with it.
