As a lot of you will know, we have an annual boat meet at Portland (Dorset) which all are welcome to attend.

We are looking to gauge interest levels for continuing it this year, probably in May again as the last couple of years have seen us have some good fishing then. (Edited to add the dates: 20th - 27th May)

Portland Marina are again happy to host the event and offer us discounted moorings, they have fuel available and lifting facilities for those needing them. Boat launching is at the adjacent Sailing Academy slipway or free at the Castletown slipway. We can arrange trailer storage at the marina if they know in advance.

If interested, please put your name down so we can flesh out the details. Dates can be decided once we look at the tide tables, some of local regular posters will be consulted to give their views on the best to pick for the various fishing available in the area.

The area offers a diversity of fishing opportunities with the Shambles bank for Turbot and Brill, the Portland Race for bass fishing, plenty of accessible wrecks, inshore and offshore and ground marks. The mussel beds which held some of the largest Plaice to be found on the UK coastline were damaged by storms last year but it is hoped they will be recovering to again be a great spot for big spotties.

Weather permitting we have a BBQ one evening of the meet with the bar now open again near the marina office. There are inexpensive hotels within walking distance for those not sleeping aboard.

Get your names down, boat names and how many will be crewing if known and lets see what we can sort out.

If you are not a boat owner but would like to crew please let us know so that we can put a list together for those with crew spaces.

I suggest we go for a May meet from the 20th to 27th. This gives a range of tides from 1.4m increasing to 2.2m, the slacker tides would give the chance to go for the offshore wrecks or the Kidney bank if anyone fancies a blonde or two. The bigger tides would still be suitable for the Shambles and the Lyme bay wrecks.

Thanks for that Steve, we will never get the ideal dates for everyone but need to get something in the book to plan around.

Can we start a bit of a list based on those dates then.

Lilbrit, Boat Name: Osprey. Crew: Cooty and Gary but probably some days with crew spaces.

If you are interested in coming down and finding a crew space put your name down on the list and I'm sure you will get out.
