    hi again

sorting out my brothers reel this time a old abu 6500 ct premium florida orange
problem he has is it doesnt go into gear to well you sort of have to push down on the handle and twist to make it click in or it will just spin the handle and not engage,

have stripped it down and cleaned it all out but myself doesnt see anything wrong any idea what is causing it thanks again sorry for asking all the questions!

POsted this god knows how long ago ... a search throws it up ... The issue is generally only a problem with the mechanism that has the separate compressed clutch release spring because the force of the spring puts some sideways stress on the clutch release arm. The earlier mechanism with the leaf spring and the current version with the return spring built into the pressure plate (ABU call it the position holder) won't normally suffer the problem.

If you find the problem keeps recurring the easiest way to get rid of it long term is to replace the release arm for a later version one (rather than the std one) and then replace the spring and pressure plate for the later version pressure plate with inbuilt spring ... that way the problem won't occur again.

Should be fine mate ... I'm just starting to catch up a bit from the pre-christmas deluge. At least I don't appear to be missing much on the Cod Fishing front as it's been rubbish this winter so far.
