Hi Guys, this year will be the 5th time that I have fished the alderney festival in October (yes, new boy  before you all start). The problem that I have as I cannot bring a car over, is how to get a reasonable amount of fishing gear over. The airline allowance is 15 kg, not a lot when you consider a fair amount of that is used on clothing, wet weather gear, boots etc. Extra baggage cost is £30 for one extra bag (not a lot) and the cost of shipping a small box via Huelin Renouf is £60 each way. Last year I did a crafty and sent one bag and my rod tube over 3 days before the festival and took another bag on the day I actually flew and got away with it. Same on the return flight only sent the first bag over on the Saturday and the other when my flight was on the Sunday. However I feel a little guilty doing this as Aurigny are very fair and let you off if your bag is a little overweight and also I do not want to muck it up for future anglers. Are there any other ways that you use to get your gear over there?

Hi Barry, did think of that but I believe that most of the Channel Island trips have finished by the time we go to Alderney. I will look into it though:bleh::fish:

Think Steve Harder, Dodge, Bill & co send a van over. See if you can meet up before they send it over. Or maybe have a word with Mark, he may know some others who are sending vehicles over.

Yeah probably best to buddy up with someone bringing a vehicle.
I remember Colin Francis being crafty many years ago and posting his gear over, in the good old days when it was dirt cheap.
Trouble was it all arrived on the Thursday, 5 days after the start!

Cheers Steve, I have been told by Steve Harder in the past that he would be happy to bring some gear over for me, but I have not taken him up on it as I know their car is usually full of the other lads gear and I did not wish to impose. I may ask him this year though and bung him a few quid to say thanks, he has been very helpful to me in the few years I have been attending.:notworthy
