Took advantage of the calm spell this week to fish the solent. Fished east of the nab on both occasions.

Tuesday was a cracking day weather-wise, arrived at HW and fished the ebb, countless whiting caught and a few bigger ones mixed in, as well as a few jumbo pout I also managed 3 congers, one was roughly 25-30lb, the others were straps. No cod unfortunately

Yesterday was extremely foggy which meant it took over twice as long to reach the nab as I'd hoped. Again fished east of the nab just north of the fingers. The whiting were a good size and target achieved on the 2nd time of trying, a nice 10lb cod graced us a couple hours after HW. (Not to my rod though!)

Just prior to setting off we heard the solent coastguard relay a Pan Pan from a vessel with a stricken prop, I hope he managed to get towed back safety in the fog.

:( Mrs B won't let me have a boat, says she's worried about me, I just think she wants the money to leave to the rug rats. :(

Just take out a whopping life insurance, then she'll be happy for you to go and endanger yourself ;)

Not sure which code you are referring to ;) The first line of the report says the Solent which is between the Isle of Wight on the South Coast, and Hampshire. The Nab Tower is a lighthouse east of the Isle of Wight and is a well-known fishing mark, as well as marking the approach channel to the ports of Portsmouth and Southampton.

The nab tower must be the worst kept secret on the solent :) 40+ boats there on tuesday, probably similar on friday as well but I couldn't count them due to the fog.

We were there friday, ploughed out in thick fog and it cleared just as we emerged at Nab. Boats everywhere! Settled in at our usual spot on the western edge of the Fingers and picked up this beauty
Weighed at 10lb 8oz, easily my best bass ever so I was well happy. That mark has been kind to me, 4 cod between 8 and 10lb, a big bass and conger to 23lb spread over just 4 trips. Sadly my last winter season on the Nab though, I'm moving to Somerset if my solicitor doesn't foul up the house sale. Anyone got any marks for the Bristol Channel they'd be happy to share?
