    Looks like its been griddled

Can never understand why ty-ers add variations not found on that which they are copying

It'll be hairy lures next, or legs, or 5 'O' Clock shadows

Your argument's drifting, you challenged removing something that wasn't on a flies representation of a fishes prey, now your saying that basic flies catch fish? I know three great casters, who catch very few fish and at least 1 great fisherman who cant cast very well but catches loads. It isnt the distance, the presentation or the opportunity, its the brain behind the angler what catches most.

Why don't you stick to one theme. I know basic flies catch fish btw.

These are some crab flies Ive tied for UK work, no stripes. They sink, present in a defensive position, they scuttle and within the confines of my ability, look like a green shore crab.

Do you think I should have added some dots?

No, never actually got them wet, a winter project to knock up some crab patterns and try them in the spring.

Apart from possibly Wrasse, Ive never heard of crab patterns working in the uk, clear tropical flats perhaps.

    I remain ever the optimist

Sorry I didn't get back sooner. Over the years I have fly fished in saltwater most of the ideas come round again. The stripes on the crab may not be natural but sometimes its the odd one out that draws the fishes eye not the exact copy.
As long as the crab acts natural and the fish is not spooked it will look past the fact it looks a bit odd. By acting natural I mean it dives for the bottom cover, which your fly will do if weighted to the depth of water.
Fish eat crabs in the UK, so they will eat crab flies in the UK.

No, great casting is only part of the success assembly.

Very true and having the opportunity to cast to the fish you want to catch is the most important. I'm interested in where you have fished in saltwater and the people you have fished with?
Do you fish only in the UK or have you been abroad?

Thanks for the like, I must say that the concept and body materials for the tie (and the posture and body) was not mine, you can thank Louis for that. I just put it all together with feathers, colors and hook

Maybe white ones for barnacles and pink or green for anemones? Love the defensive pose
