I saw it in a Colchester chippy years ago and asked about it, they said it was our beloved dogfish, tried it and it was ok. Think most places call it rock salmon.

Most of it is now Smoothound since the 'Fish lovey Brigade' got the take stopped on Spurdog.

Rock Salmon has been dogfish wherever I have had it. I suspect a lot of "cod" is pollock and coley ;)

Thats quite interesting because I always thought Rock Salmon was Dogfish or one of its sharkey relatives. However, when experienced guys give the same name to Pollack and Coalfish it just proves the number of regional variations. Goes to show that with this hobby there's no hard and fast rules to anything. Anyway, tastes good whatever it is.

Rock has always been my favorite fish, and it has always been some form of shark family fish with a soft backbone, i have lived midlands ,southeast and now southwest, and it is still the same never been any form of other fish .
Rock salmon as a name stopped being used a few years ago as it was said to be misleading the user into thinking they were eating salmon!

dont know of many fish and chip shops sellling salmon in batter but that is why the name was changed
