    There is no embarrasment for newbies at a casting meet. All you will get is support and advice and people wanting to see you do well. Go along with an open mind and I guarantee you will have a cracking day out and learn loads.

    In fact once people start laughing and taking the p1$$ you know you have "made it" because it only starts to happen once you have shown you have a bit of ability and a decent technique so when you do get one wrong you are fair game (the first time I got ripped for cracking off was bizzarely one of my best days on the casting court for this precise reason).

    (And yes, take a reel and some weights along (and your own rod, no point getting some help on a rod you won't be using) and if you ask nicely you will be given the chance to try a few rods out)
