Hi,

Got one of these in Poundland today. Takes 4aaa batteries. So torch and batteries for £2. The torch slides off the plastic tightening screw bracket so I've put the screw bracket on tripod and torch in tackle box. Should be perfect for having a torch shine upwards from tripod to mighty bright on rod tip for night fishing.

Hope this is useful.

Can try a cycycle light out have to pad bracket as tripods 15/16mm and there around 26mm on handle bars
Ive an led torch 2aa's around 22mm thick use pipe bracket bolted to 15mm one then can swivel light where ever.
best ways on an arm away from side of tripod so lights tape/tips up but if using scotchbrite types or luminous a UV torch works best as reflective tapes works best in UV light spectrum
Try a laser pen on road signs or back of ambulance at distance shows up miles away as thats a more narrow/controlled light but close uv works the best then led's
ive led sight lights shows road signs up for long way as in cool white 6500K's(blue light spectrum)
thing with tip tapes etc is reflective so needs light refraction to you to work so needs an angle

That's true but if you have chrome or SS rings on your rods the light does a good job and your headlamp can be off a lot of the time. Just place the light lower on the leg & shine up to the tips. Also nice to have a means to see the tripod when away at the waters edge.

Reflective tape is designed to reflect the light back on the same axis the light came from. So don't waste time and batteries on a light fixed to the tripod, just use a headlamp.
It works perfectly well, much better than a tiplight, it doesn't reflect the tip tape but reflects the rod eyes, I'll take some pic's at the weekend, i've used this method for years!

I've been trying different methods, and the best I've found and still really cheap is a Aldi headlamp they were on sale a few weeks ago, now they have them reduced to £4.99 cut the headband off, it has it's own holder, drill a hole in the holder and bolt it to a 4ft pole (a piece of copper tube would work well) tie it to the two front poles at the front of the tripod across ways and point the lamp at the tips, because it's side on it's works much better, and you could also hang your rigs on the cross bar!

I wrap these foam straps to secure a spare head lamp or torch to the shelter:

http://www.veals.co.uk/cgi-bin/sh000001.pl?WD=foam&PN=leeda-wrap-rests-4159.html#SID=42

works a treat with this torch:

As previously pointed out thee tips seem to light up better with a source of light from the side.

If anyone can source a multi directional clip on torch attachment I would snap it up, I looked every where but they only appear to swivel in one plane

Hi Billy, just been reading this thread, and realised that I made the item you need last year.. it doesnt mount on the tripod,I have had several lights fitted to tripods, and TBH I haven"t seen one yet that lights the rod tips properly.... mine fits to the side of a Beta Box, and points your torch wherever you want it ...almost a 360 degree movement in all planes.... I have made a couple for friends and they find it works OK, I use mine a lot.
Its made from an e.bays finest £2.00 torch clip , an e.bays fines £6.00 torch , and a few bits and bobs from my workshop.... anybody should be able to knock one up in no time..

Heres a few pics

Nice work dave, I would prefer fixing it on to the top bar of my shelter so its above my head and out the way, definitely something that will inspire me to put something together:)

View attachment 308167 If you search for 360 degree bicycle light mount (or similar wording) on eBay it brings up a few mounts that swivel the torch whilst it's mounted to the bars.

I got one ages ago and it works well
Thats almost the same as the one in my picture, as you say they work well , no matter where you fix them, I dont use my igloo very much so needed to fix one somewhere else !

Bloke up the beach from me had a big cheap multi led plastic torch shoved in the shingle pointing straight up at his rod tips. I could see the tip tape from 50 yards and he didn't need to keep a head torch on with the beam going wherever he looked and peeing of other anglers. Very simple, very effective. No faffing with brackets and the big petrol station special torch took big batteries that he said last ages.

Hi,

As an update to my original post the cheap clip broke soon afterwards. I do have tip lights but found, for me, reflective tip tape is best. I bought a decent hand torch, settings for 45 to 140 lumens and simple place it in a bucket I put beside my seat box. The torch simply lies on a towel in the bucket and I just adjust the towel position to angle the torch to shine on to the reflective tape. Works great and means my head torch isn't on all the time
