    Fitting a new radio to our 18ft cuddy boat and going to replace antenna as well as current one very short.
    What would you guys recommend?
    Was thinking of 1.4m Glomex ?

    Perfect. Get the base that allows you to swivel it down for transport or it may end up less than 1.4m

    We already have a swivel base on our current one so hoping i can use it for the Glomex.

    All good news for me, I bought the Glomex 1.5 for my boat.

    Stashed with all the other goodies :BigGrin:
    I quite fancied the 2.4 6db gain but thought it might be a bit much on a 17 footer!!

    with the cable is it best to cut it as short as poss or to leave full length anc coil and cable tie together?

    There was a time when the length was special but apparently, not now. You can cut but I prefer to coil and hide. You never know when you might need to change things. I have a data cable to my radar that is long enough to go up a yacht mast. Instead it does a couple of circuits of my wheelhouse behind the headlining ;)
