Visit Steppingstones - Belize Fishing Holiday's

Join us, Chris and Sue Harris, at our home in Belize and experience some of the best warm salt water fishing in the world.

As you might expect from the former owners of Harris Angling, we tend to focus on lure fishing in its various forms. We have a huge area of unspoilt inshore fishing composed of small cayes , flats, mangroves, creeks, channels rivers plus of course the largest living barrier reef in the world. The fishing pressure down here is very low. Seeing other anglers is a rarity.

In this paradise in unspoilt southern Belize, we have most of the major sport fish including tarpon, snook, kingfish, wahoo, barracuda, grouper, snapper and many more. But it is the bonefish and the permit that make the area so special. Bonefish are here in profusion and can be caught on jigs and small minnows as well as the more conventional fly tackle.

Permit? Well they are in a class of their own. They are here in very large numbers, but as anyone who has ever fished for them will tell you, seeing may be believing, but it ain’t necessarily catchin’!! Many of our guests have reported twenty or thirty shots at permit in a single day, with fish in excess of twenty pounds being caught.

We operate a tiny two cabana resort aimed fairly and squarely at anglers who want to come and enjoy dazzling fishing. Our aim is to let you be the hero. People say Steppingstones is not like a resort, more like a house party. Cabana are spacious with plenty of room for you to spread out your tackle. We focus on putting you on the fish with one of our three local guides.

Whether you are stalking tarpon on one of our rivers, creeping around the mangroves for snappers, trolling the reef edge for, well, just about anything, or even out deep looking for a wahoo or a sailfish, our friendly English speaking guides will give you days to remember.

Our days are not all about guided boat trips however. If you want to “paddle your own canoe” we have two kayaks, free to guests, equipped for fishing which will enable you to sample this unique and fun way of getting to grips with our local fish in crystal clear shallow waters. If you have never tried, you should. Hooking even a small tarpon or grouper from a kayak is something not easily forgotten, and the ‘yaks are effortless to paddle from the word go, as well as being very stable.

We have a dock complete with resident barracuda and snapper. Small baits will catch small snappers etc, and if you fancy some arm wrestling, a large dead bait will put you in line to hook a sting ray or a nurse shark, both of which run big around here.

We are situated right on the beach; your front door is about 30 feet from the sea. Behind us is the jungle, and mangrove, and our new iguana habitat where you can see these beautiful creatures up close and personal.

There are no roads here at Steppingstones, everything comes in by sea. The cliché of waving coconut palms, lapping waves, and a warm breeze are our reality. We wake up most mornings to a stunning sunrise and, if we are lucky, watch the comings and goings of visiting dolphins, a manatee grazing off the seagrass, or one of our local ospreys flying past to the nest with a fish in its claws.

We specialize in giving the angler new to warm saltwater fishing a non stop stream of “firsts”, even supplying tackle needs if necessary. And at the end of the day you relax with a beer or a glass of wine while we will clean your catch and our BBQ does the rest.

We host many couples, and if your partner loves a sleepy, dreamy place with nothing much to do but eat, sleep, read fat novels, sunbathe and swim, then it’s the ideal spot. And bring out the Indiana Jones in you with a trip to fascinating nearby Lubaantun, where the original crystal skull was discovered, or travel by boat at night up Monkey River on a crocodile watching trip.

As we say at the end of the day, “another day in paradise!”.
