BAITS
Peeler crab is the key bait here for the plaice, eels and flounder, with lugworm and ragworm being a second choice. The worm baits take the dabs and odd flounder, plus numbers of pin whiting. Try a small pin whiting for the conger, though the eels will also take squid in preference to mackerel.

TACKLE AND TACTICS
This is a popular match venue and can be busy at the weekends. The best of the fishing is over the smaller neap tides the two hours either side of low water and to a lesser extent either side of high water. You're fishing off a stone and rubble high water mark mixed with grey mud over a rocky ledge and in to the main channel of the Dee Estuary. The Dee Estuary channel is approximately 100-yards wide and about 30-feet or more deep that carries a strong tidal flow with sand out in front, but rocks close in that claim a lot of tackle.

Due to the snags most anglers fish a 5-6oz beachcaster with a reel line of between 20 and 25lbs, plus a 60lb shock leader. You'll also need grip leads of 5 and 6ozs, but it's also worth carrying a couple 6oz uptide leads with the wires coming out of the nose to give increased grip if you want to fish longer in the strong tide run.

By far the best rigs are simple one hook flowing traces that keep the bait hard on the seabed. Make these about 24-inches long and from 25lb line for the smaller fish, but 30lb for the codling. Aberdeen's size 2 or 1 are a good all round choice, but for the codling go for 2/0 or 3/0 hooks rigged pennel style. If you choose to use a three-hook flapper rig, fish it to a slightly slack line to keep the baits closer to the seabed due to the steep angle in to the water.

The whiting and flats are out on the sand, with the cod concentrated at the edge of the rough.

LOCATION
Take the A548 through Greenfield and Mostyn. As you leave Mostyn and come to a white pub on the left turn right onto a stony track and over a hump backed bridge over the railway. Park up where the track bends to the right and it's a short walk to the mark.
