Mostyn, Flintshire Written by WSF BAITS TACKLE AND TACTICS Due to the snags most anglers fish a 5-6oz beachcaster with a reel line of between 20 and 25lbs, plus a 60lb shock leader. You'll also need grip leads of 5 and 6ozs, but it's also worth carrying a couple 6oz uptide leads with the wires coming out of the nose to give increased grip if you want to fish longer in the strong tide run. By far the best rigs are simple one hook flowing traces that keep the bait hard on the seabed. Make these about 24-inches long and from 25lb line for the smaller fish, but 30lb for the codling. Aberdeen's size 2 or 1 are a good all round choice, but for the codling go for 2/0 or 3/0 hooks rigged pennel style. If you choose to use a three-hook flapper rig, fish it to a slightly slack line to keep the baits closer to the seabed due to the steep angle in to the water. The whiting and flats are out on the sand, with the cod concentrated at the edge of the rough. LOCATION Comment... |
