A local angler has broken a new record in the world of shark fishing, reeling in a thresher shark weighing a staggering 271 pounds, the biggest to ever be fished out of Welsh waters.

On Thursday the 17th of July whilst fishing aboard Milford Haven boat Lady Jue III skippered by Rob Rennie, Andy Turrell captured a Thresher Shark measured at approximately 253lbs, making this capture a new Welsh Record.

Team England’s Mens, Ladies, Youths and Junior teams travelled to Wexford, Ireland for the 2015 SALC Home Nations Shore Angling Championships from 1st to 4th July and the medals just kept coming for England as they took three team golds and one bronze.

The recovery of fish stocks in many EU waters has seen 'significant progress' over the past year, with a majority of stocks in the Atlantic, North Sea and Baltic on track for long-term sustainability, Commissioner Karmenu Vella, responsible for Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, said in Brussels today.

Following several successive years of stock decline and a vigorous campaign by recreational angling organisations, the countries of the EU have finally agreed to raise the minimum size at which bass can be harvested by both commercial and recreational fisherman.

The EU has today taken another step to protect sea bass stocks in Europe. The 28 EU member states agreed to the Commission's proposal to increase the minimum size for northern sea bass from 36 to 42 cm.
