You may or may not know, Gone Fishing (tackle shop in Caleta de Fuste) have recently moved location, adjacent to the main beach, underneath a 5 star hotel, Geranios Suites. This is a brand new modern hotel (2 years old) with fantastic views of Caleta bay & the marina. It is also in the middle of all the local amenities, with an indoor shopping centre & more beaches within a 10 min walk to the right, and centre of village 10min walk to the left. Good shore fishing marks are within a 15min walk in either direction.
The hotel consists of brand new self-contained suites, with fully built in modern kitchens & all the facilities, including climate control. There is a bar, a restaurant, children’s play area, outdoor swimming pools for children & adults and a fantastic health spa also with a heated pool. This hotel has primarily been very popular with visitors from Scandinavian countries, Italians & Spanish from mainland Spain.
Yesterday, the manager of the hotel confirmed the following fantastic prices for Gone Fishing customers: (min 2 sharing)
Suite only - 20.50 euros per person per night (that’s twenty euros & 50 cents!!)
Bed & Breakfast - 31.00 euros per person per night
Half-board, breakfast & evening meal - 35.00 euros per person per night!!!
The Suites have various options for bed arrangements (doubles, twins, comfortable sofa beds).
So now we you can have 5 star luxury to go with the 5 star fishing available here in Caleta de Fuste. We also have accommodation from 150 euros per week (sleep 3) which are basic but more than adequate for the hardcore angler.
Also two doors from us, there is an excellent Beach Café, owned by an Austrian lady who practically lives in it. She is also offering discounts for Gone Fishing customers. She doesn’t have bacon & egg on the menu (sorry) but has some excellent home made recipes such as Austrian meat balls, Wiener Schnitzel & a filling crisp-fresh char-grilled chicken salad with home made yoghurt dressing, etc, for 5 euros. One of the best cups of coffee in town is also just 1 euro (instead of 1.50) not to mention all her delicious home made Austrian cakes!! There is also a Canarian restaurant in town which specialises in local foods, where a 3 course lunch-time menu is only 7 euros, including your drink! Gone Fishing customers also get a coffee (as well as your sweet) included in the 7 euros.
Also in an effort to help each other & the local economy, other excursions such as Jet Ski rentals, Dolphin & Whale watching trips, Glass bottom boat tour (which I took my kids on a couple of days ago….at least 500 Palometas & an educational marine tour with a Sea Lion show at the end…….are all also now available for booking from Gone Fishing, at the same prices as booking direct with the individual operators. So why not treat the wife & kids to one of these while you’re getting some fishing in?
What qualifies you as a Gone Fishing customer? Come fish with us on the boat (which also has excellent offers this year) or come & see us for shore fishing advice. You can bring your own gear, by all means, and even if you’ve come with a suitcase full of end tackle & spend half an hour getting the free advice on the local fishing, we’d consider it a gesture if you at least bought your daily bait from us. If spinning is your thing, then buying a couple of recommended lures that produces fish locally would be considered a gesture. Between now & October, if you want us to be a guide for demonstrating the technique for catching those big fighting Palometa (also the breams of which we have 20 different varieties, mullet & various other exotic species) then we can arrange specialised rods for you for this type of fishing, for a small fee, for your first session. If you enjoy this style of fishing & decide to invest in your own set-up, then we will deduct a percentage of the fee from the cost of your own equipment (which incidentally would be suitable for many other holiday destinations). Call it a test drive before buying, if you like….or the price for the method of catching lots of fish…..abroad! The guiding service would be limited to two people, at any one time, due to many reasons. From October onwards, we would mainly be fishing for other toothy critters, such as big Garfish, Atlantic Bonito Tuna, European Barracuda and not to mention our almost resident big Blue fish.
