World Shore Fishing Championship: Training Day

Vitória (ES) - Brazil has showed that it is a serious candidate for the title, both in the male and the female competition, in the World Fishing Championship. At the official training for the competition, realized last Monday at the Camburi Beach, Brazil won on both categories, and with surplus. The male competition captured 106 fish, resulting in 10015 grams in the total weighing. In second, comes Italy with 86 fishes (8667 grams). The Netherlands finished in third with 72 fishes (6335 grams). In the female competition, Brazil captured 21 fishes (1887 grams). In second place was also Italy with 14 fishes (881 grams) and in third, Portugal with 15 fishes, but with only 710 grams at the total weigh. The competition will have its first stage this Tuesday, also in Camburi Beach, from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. There are 13 countries participating in the male competition and nine in the female.

At the individuals Brazil was also very well, winning at the male, with Paulo Afonso Medeiros achieving 3470 grams at the total weighing. Among the women the best position from the Brazilian team was Elizabeth Bendini with 404 grams, occupying the second place on the general classification.

The official training enlivened Camburi Beach, occupying almost all of its extension. During 4 hours, the competitors tested the equipment and got to know the place of the dispute. The strong wind disturbed the actions, mainly in the last hour of the training. The most incidences of fish were registered at the beginning of Camburi beach, next to the Aruan Hotel, where the male teams had trained.

The Dutch Linda Van de Velde said that the official training was good for the final adjustments in the equipment and for the localization of the main canals of fishing, but the weather punished a lot, mainly the Europeans. "The heat was intense and the wind made the sand beat strongly in our legs ", said her.

The English Sherryl Bellfield said that the incidence of fish was small. "Hopefully tomorrow we will have more action so that the competition becomes more exciting. A calmer wind is also good for the performance of the teams", she commented.

This Tuesday the dispute officially starts with the athletes disputing the first stage in all extension of Camburi beach, from 8:30 to 12:30 am. The weighing will happen in the Canto do Sol Hotel, at 1:00 pm. The official result will possibly be divulged at 5:00 pm. On Wednesday, the Praia do Riacho beach, in Guarapari, hosts the second stage from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. On the 18^th the delegations will compete in Regência, Linhares, from 10 am to 2 pm On the 19 ^th the competition comes back to Camburi beach, from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. On the 20^th, the prizes will be rewarded. On the 21^th, the delegations leave to their countries.
