Nite International MX40 Watch

The MX40-02 is a stunning bit of kit, an  endurance sports timepiece that’s tough and ideally suited to the hardcore  angler. The MX40 is built around a solid stainless steel case with a stainless  steel rotating bezel and scratch resistant Sapphire crystal glass for the  viewing face. The overall diameter is 45mm. The time movement itself is a  Miyota OS20 Japan Chrono Movement and features a calendar window as well as a  sports chronograph. The watch comes with a Silver Oxide battery that should  last for up to 3 years or more.

The MX40 features a screw down crown with triple  O ring seal and is water resistant to 200M. Our test version came with the  Polymer strap and each watch is fitted with full length solid pins to eliminate  any strap failure. I’ve been using the watch for over a month now and I must  say that the strap gives a real sense of security and the full length pins  really do help! I’m also impressed with the buckle and extra security  arrangements built into the strap and you can wear it knowing it is highly  unlikely it will work its way loose.

During testing the watch has been exposed  to saltwater on a number of occasions, from splashes when wading out to a full  submerging during a little mishap on a rock! During all of these encounters the  watch never let a drop of water in and with a light rinse in freshwater, the  watch was as good as new. The guys at Nite say providing the crown is fully  screwed down – water won’t be a problem and it certainly hasn’t been for me so  far.

The jewel in the crown however is the GTLS  Light Source. This watch has 16 individually hand positioned light sources on  the 5 minute markers the minute, hour and chronograph hands as well as the zero  bezel position. GTLS is an abbreviation of Gaseous Tritium Light Source, this  is a tiny self powered light that glows brighter than phosphorous paint  providing a dial illumination that is self powered and working all the time  without batteries! If you are a night owl when it comes to your fishing, you  really can’t beat it. When fishing in complete darkness (with numb fingers) it  was a joy to be able to check the time without having to fiddle around with  buttons or switch my headlamp on. The hands free illumination will be brilliant  for the light travelling night time bass angler or the sea trout enthusiast  (and any other form of night time fishing for that matter).

In conclusion this watch is a great bit of  kit to add to your angling accessory list. It has all the styling you would  require to wear it for everyday (we found the GTLS functionality becomes useful  for all sorts of non-angling situations, too) use in addition to being a  functional, practical and enjoyable piece of equipment to use on the beach or  boat. From our tests it seems ultra reliable and robust enough to withstand any  sort of wear and tear you are likely to put it through, without the risk of  losing the watch or flooding it with saltwater. The GTLS Technology really does  work and once you’ve tried it, there will be no going back!
