Lucido T7
The Lucido T7 is at the forefront of modern technology. Instead of using conventional filament bulbs (which apparently have to transform 90% of their efficiency in to heat just to light the filament) the T7 uses high-efficiency liquid crystals or LED's. Put power through an LED and all that energy is then transformed in to direct light with just a tiny fraction of wastage.
This has massive advantages. First off, battery drain is minimal. The T7 can use gradually increasing numbers of LED's to conserve power. At low settings you're using just three crystals, but turn the rotating switch light fully on and you power up seven crystals and achieve full power. With a brand new set of three AA batteries you will get around 50 hours of full power time, or up to 240 hours running three crystals. The drain curve of power is also slower. Conventional bulbs run then die quickly, but with the LED's the power drain curve is much shallower and progressive, so you're not suddenly plunged in to darkness.
Fewer batteries mean cheaper running costs. There is no service required. LED's have a life of about 11 years and are totally shockproof. Drop the torch and it can't hurt. The T7 is fully waterproof to one-metre, and I had no option but to check this by having to fish through a real downpour, and it kept going with no problems. You can adjust the angle of light as the lens unit swivels up and down, but is firm enough to stay in place unless you physically move it by hand.
The light itself is a pure white colour, none of that yellowish tinge you get with most normal battery headlights. This white light evenly illuminates your surroundings and helps maintain your natural night vision. My eyes are getting older and I found tying knots in mono at night much easier with this pure white light.
The lamp has an elasticated headband, which is comfy to wear, and the flat body that fits to your forehead is cushioned and also very comfy. It weighs only 124 gms.
This is one for the bass man and any angler who wants a floodlight beam for unobtrusive night fishing or for general illumination around your fishing camp. I think it's one of the best review items I've seen in years. It retails for £59.99 and is worth every penny!
