Sea Fishing and Sea Angling Online: Petzl Duo Headlight Petzl Duo Headlight ================================================================================ Mike Thrussell on 01 January, 2006 12:50:00 Petzl's Duo headlamp offers the angler the best of both worlds when it comes to power output and battery longevity. The Duo is basically two lights in one as the name suggests. You have the main Halogen bulb positioned on the right side of the lens giving you a more powerful concentrated long range beam for spotting fish in the surf or below you in the sea swell when rock fishing. Used all the time this bulb gives around 2 to 3 hours of continuous light via the three AA size batteries. For baiting up and general work around the base camp when less light is required a switch positioned on the left side of the lens housing allows you to transfer to five energy efficient LED bulbs that give you a good 150 hours of continuous light and the same three AA batteries. The headlamp also sports a push in lock facility on the switch to avoid the light being inadvertently turned on, also a zoom switch that concentrates the Halogen beam in to a tight spotlight or a wider all round beam. The lens housing and battery box are in a tough yellow plastic, and the Duo comes with a spare Halogen and one spare LED bulb. In use we've found the Duo to be comfy to wear, tough, gives plenty of light using either the Halogen or LED option, plus it requires minimum maintenance. Just dab a little grease to the connectors inside the battery box and it should last for many seasons. It's ideal for the angler needing to walk long distances to fish, but also gives the insurance that if the halogen bulb fails, then you still have enough illumination to continue fishing or to walk for home. Available from all good tackle shops. UK price is around £39.99 but varies.
