Tronix Clip on Tip Lights

Sussex based tackle company, Tronix, best known for their extensive range of terminal tackle, rigs and of course EVA Foam Rig Winders have launched a brand new range of clip-on tip lights.

I was first introduced to these clip-on lights during the Tackle and Guns trade show last October by Tronix Gaffer and sinker of many pints, George Cunningham. Impressed with Georges initial demo of the lights I asked if it would be possible to have a better look and a proper play with them out in the field, 4 days later, I received some light samples.

As we all know spotting bites in the darkness can be pain. Usually anglers will either use a bulky battery powered tip light, a headlight (in conjunction with reflective tape) or an awkward light stick.

Whilst many anglers are happy to use a headlight or other beach light source to spot bites during night time fishing expeditions, some fish species can be spooked by this and a more subtle light source is needed. This is where smaller chemical stick lights come into their own. The awkward thing with chemical tips lights is that they can be a pain to attach to a rod tip and can often be seen flying through the air during a vigorous cast.

Tronix tip lights are just like standard chemical light sticks, but with an added clip built in. This means that you can easily and quickly clip the tip light onto your rod tip without any fiddly attachment procedure. Realising that anglers use different rods all with different tip diameters, the Tronix clip-on lights come in 6 different sizes – from SS which will fit rods in diameters of 0.6 to 1.4mm to XXL, which fits rod tips 3.7 to 4.3mm.

Tronix Light

Over the five months I’ve spent using the lights, I find it hard to find any faults. At 60p each they offer fantastic value and also have a superb longevity. I experimented to see how long the light would last and with the samples I had, the lights lasted (and were still useable) over a five day continuous period. What was even more amazing is even after 3 weeks, there was still a shimmer of light emitting from the clip on lights.

They are practical and easy to use. The clip-on feature saves the fiddly nature of having to tape on lights to rod tips and also proves more reliable. I tried to get the tip lights to fling off using vigorous casting techniques, to see just how much force they could cope with. I found it very hard to remove the tip lights using a variety of different casting styles and only had one light come off during the testing period. With the wide range of sizing’s, I managed to find a light that would clip on to all of the rods that I use, so I’m sure anglers across the country will be able to find a size to fit their rod tips perfectly.

Tronix Lights

For the price you’d have to be mad not to have a couple of packets in your tackle box ready to go. Light sticks might not be everybody’s cup of tea when it comes to recognising bites – but for those who do, you won’t go far wrong with these beauties from Tronix.

Tronix Clip-On Lights cost £1.20 for a pack of 2. Tronix Clip-On Lights are available through Tronix Stockist, for a full list visit the Tronix UK Web Site.
