Channel Cut Pro Braid Review
Described as a super strong Hi-tec Dyneema braid we’ve been testing this line in both 30lb and 15lb line strengths over a three month period. The 30lb was used for standard downtide and uptide fishing, the 15lb on smaller baitcast reels when dinking out smaller species such as whiting and dabs.
The diameter of the braid is quoted on the spool as being generally four times thinner than the corresponding breaking strain of mono and we’d agree with this.
Straight off the carrier spool the line is soft and supple. It loads on to the reel spool over mono backing really neatly under strong pressure and gives a good profile. When working fish up from depth off the boat the line is not prone to bedding in to itself, plus when line needs to be given it flows off the spool smoothly.
Due to several cancelled boat trips during January and February 2009 the line, having already been used several times, was left to lay on the reel for some considerable time untouched, but remained soft and supple with no sign of slight stiffening which some braids can suffer from.
While fishing we found the line very direct for bite detection and we had noticed no signs of abrasion even when uptiding with a major amount of line out in to light mixed rough ground.
It knots well to mono leaders using 7-turn Grinner knots for the 30lb braid and 10-turn Grinner knots when using the 15lb braid. It also knots well direct to swivels should you so choose, but again use a multiple turn Grinner knot as the best option.
Like many other braids it can be felt right down through the rod as it is retrieved through the rings, though this is not as harsh as some current top selling braids and on this score the Channel Cut Pro also stands up very well against top competitor braids.
Although, due to the time of year, we could only really test the 15lb braid for boat fishing, we feel this diameter will also be ideal for plugging for bass where its very direct nature will increase the work rate of the plug, plus give an excellent hook up ratio as bass hit the moving lures. Also the soft, supple character of the line and its easy flow off the reel spool will aid longer casts.
It is supplied in 300-metre lengths which is ideal for deep water drift fishing at speed in windy weather when you need to let a long length of line out and allow the bait to sit on the seabed every few seconds to give the fish chance to attack the bait.
Channel Cut Pro Braid is a neutral grey in colour, comes in sizes 15lb, 20lb, 30lb, 40lb and 50lb so will cover all UK situations from both boat and shore.
Until the end of May Channel Cut Braid is available at a special introductory price of £19.99 instead of the normal RRP of £24.95
