Climax Fluorocarbon Line

We tested a 100-metre spool of 22.4lb line and a 25-metre spool of 32.7lb line in the heavier breaking strains, also a 100-metre spool of 7lb line and a25-metre spool of 10lb line. It is made in Germany.

The 22lb line is ideal in size for normal hook snoods. We liked this line as it's quite stiff and a little wiry making it ideal for daylight surf fishing in high clarity conditions. Because of the slight stiffness in the line it helps to minimise tangles as the bait and rig gets washed around in the surf tables. It's ideal when targeting flounder, dabs, whiting, eels and other smaller fish. Some fluorocarbons can be difficult to knot, but we found Climax to be consistent and reliable.

The 32lb line retains the stiff character, but it again knots very well. We think this line is ideal for bass fishing in calm seas, either when boat fishing on the drift with large fish baits, or when close quarter ledgering with crab baits when a stronger line maybe required to combat snags.

fluorocarbon.jpgThe lighter 7lb and 10lb lines we found equally good at knotting and not prone to abrasion. These we would use for lighter fly fishing tippets when after scad, surface feeding garfish and mackerel, but also for bass in very clear water daylight conditions.
