BaitBukit
One of the major burdens facing sea anglers is how to carry bait effectively. We all have our own ways of doing things and unless you are organized, it ends up been a messy affair involving a less the wieldy cool box and a mass of ice cream tubs. Devon based Bristol Channel Products now believe they have the answer, the Bait Bukit!
As the name suggests the primary purpose for this bucket is to carry bait. It is nicely designed for carrying a multitude of baits at the same time, ideal for match anglers. The bucket is split into three trays. The base container is divided into three equal sections and is ideal for carrying baits such as lug, rag or crab. Each section is deep allowing you to carry a large amount of bait, certainly enough for a good session.
The middle container is divided into 2 sections, ideal for fish baits. One section is slightly larger than the other and can hold a 1lb box of squid or 2 packets of 3 whole mackerel. The smaller tray can be used for smaller frozen baits such as sandeels, mussels and crab. Once again the trays are deep allowing for a good amount of bait to be stored. In-between tray 2 and tray 1 fits a good sized cutting board which fits into the lid of the bucket for real world use. Both the base and middle container can both be detached from the bucket and put directly into a fridge to store your bait (with the wife's permission of course). It's still necessary to properly package your worms in newspaper and course material for rag though.
Finally the top section tray is designed for a wide range of uses. If you are going for a quick short session with a minimum amount of kit then you can fit a few leads, some traces, pliers and other bits and pieces easily into the tray. For the longer sessions, it's ideal for carrying ice packs. We used ours mostly for putting used traces and sand covered leads in ready for washing when we got home. It's ideal for washing your terminal tackle in and allowing it to dry without any effort, although if you want to use the tray for this it might be an idea to drill a few holes through to allow water out and aid drying.
The Bait Bukit is made to an excellent standard and is constructed from strong plastics. The trays are nice and strong and will take years of abuse as will the bait board. Unfortunately the lid of the bucket is a tad flimsy although, it is printed in large letters on the bucket that it's not designed to be sat on. It is also suggested that you should attach the lid to the bucket with some strong mono, and speaking from experience, its a very worthwhile tip. The handle is well built and should provide many years of service. It is also detachable so if you need to replace it at any time you can.
If we had to change anything we would make the lid more robust for seating. But this is small change and in no way detracts from the overall construction and usefulness of this product. In conclusion this is an excellent product that will provide anglers with many years of service. As the web site says, it is designed for anglers by anglers.
The Bait Bukit is available from baitbukit.co.uk in 16 and 20litre versions priced at £23.74 including P and P.
