Abu Terminator Plug

I'started plug fishing for bass way back in the late 1960's after reading some American articles on striper bass fishing. At that time, the plugs available over here were pretty dire and I ended up making some myself with varying degrees of success. How things have changed. We're literally inundated with a wide range of top class plugs designed to run at different depths and produce varied actions.

ABU have recently added their considerable weight to the overall option with the Terminator range. Of most interest to saltwater anglers are a 110mm floating plug in 18g weight, and two sinking plugs, a 90mm version weighing 18g, and a 110mm 30g type. They all have a round weight inside that rolls to the back of the lure for casting, but rolls the length of the lure during retrieve to produce both noise and vibration. The plugs have a nice, injured fish wobbling action at slow to medium speed retrieve rates.

They also cast well, even in to a strong headwind.

There is a range of different colours available, but I've found the serial coding numbers H-BS, H-BB and H-PER ideally suited to imitating smaller sea fish. The H-BS looks like a juvenile bass and is excellent over inshore rocks and estuaries, try the H-PER to represent a joey mackerel and I've done well on this while trolling from the boat over reefs, and the H-BB I've found brilliant in areas where bass are feeding on small sea trout around the heads of estuaries.

What makes these lures especially appealing is the price. The floating 110mm costs £4.50, the sinking 90mm £4.25, and the sinking 110 30g again £4.50. Excellent price, and an excellent lure.

Available at all ABU stockists, and from mail order houses.
