Sea Fishing and Sea Angling Online: Fishtek Jelltex Sandeels Fishtek Jelltex Sandeels ================================================================================ Mike Thrussell on 01 January, 2006 01:30:00 Fishtek's Jelltex sandeels made their mark quickly in sea angling by breaking the Irish coalfish record with a cracker of over 29lbs. Some start! Jelltex is a revolutionary soft rubber like material specially developed by Fishtek Ltd. It can stretch to 10 times its original length and is more resistant to tearing when attacked by fish. The material also carries a very lifelike and natural action in the water, especially when you need a relatively slow retrieve rate. They are also environmentally friendly and do not contain plasticisers such as phthalates. It is these plasticisers used in many other soft lures that if in contact with other plastics like tackle box trays etc, will eat in to the plastic by melting it. Its also important not to mix Jelltex lures with those continuing plasticisers as the latter will attack the Jelltex material. They come in several styles and sizes. There's a single tail sandeel in 4in and 8in lengths (not stretched), which are perfect for trolling for bass, casting off the rocks for bass and pollack, or on flying collar rigs for wreck pollack and coalfish. They also produce a single jellyworm type, plus a double tail, again both perfect for all pollack, bass, coalfish and cod situations, plus fish shaped Shad lures in sizes 4-inch up to 6-inch and in a variety of colours. All these can be either fished on flying collar rigs or added to Fishtek's own Mirror Head and Rattle Head jig heads also reviewed on this site. We tested these lures on wreck pollack up to 14 lbs, also shore pollack off rock ledges. We found the material to be all it claims to be. It looks good in the water, and certainly stands up well regards the numbers of fish that can be caught on the one lure before major damage sets in. We found the mirror Head with the single tail jellyworm in red particularly good for pollack, as was the shad in white. Fishtek also tell us that their 8-inch sandeels and shads are proving effective for American anglers who are using them as trolling lures for sailfish, barracuda and yellowfin tuna. We can confirm this as we've also caught yellowfin on the small 4-inch Jelltex shad, plus jack crevalle in Florida. Prices vary for each type, but a pack of ten 4-inch worms retails for £1.95, and ten 6-inch shads at £7.50.
